What’s the most random thing you are packing in your suitcase for holidays?

I will start, we are about to go on a fly cruise, just packing the cases and for my toddler I am packing a straight vegetable peeler. He likes apples a lot, but doesn’t like the skin so we have to peel it off.
I figured they will most likely have apples on the buffet on board but it feels like a faff to find someone and ask them to peel it for him therefore I have brought a new peeler to pack in his case this morning.

Asked DP to guess what the most random thing we are packing to take with us was and he guessed potatoes close but no 😂

Can anyone beat a peeler?

Eh? You need to expand 😂

🤣 haha...

It's a full single size special needs safety bed and is a travel version of my DDs actual bed. If you Google safe space bed it will give you an idea of what they look like. The travel type breaks down into a very large suitcase and is classed as medical equipment for flying. Always fun travelling with three kids, all DDs prescribed foods, meds, wheelchair, all the usual kid paraphernalia and a whole bleeding bed in a suitcase 🥴 never a dull moment lol.

JackyinaTracky · 26/07/2023 22:12

I think it’s sensible, husband thinks it’s weird and a sign of paranoia and deep seated unaddressed anxiety…

CO2/smoke detector

Makes sense now. It's brilliant you can find the energy to go away. I hope it's wonderful.

Aw thank you, I always question my sanity when we're doing the actual travel part but so far all our holidays have felt worth it afterwards and the kids all need it too even though it can be hard I'm always glad when we've bitten the bullet!

IncognitoMam · 26/07/2023 22:19

@Loopyloooooo that's good to hear. Change of scene is great for them.

AlphaAlpha · 26/07/2023 22:24

Airfryer and soda stream.
Driving to south of France 😬

Whatwasthatflyingby · 26/07/2023 22:25

Bed sheets depending on where we are going. I can’t sleep on patterned, bobbly or thin sheets or anything with a hole/mark on it.

UnicornPug · 26/07/2023 22:26

Aged about 12 my brother accidentally took his school blazer. It was on a hanger under a jumper and being lazy he just grabbed the whole thing and stuck it in the case. We made him try it on at various landmarks across Europe😂

LouLou198 · 26/07/2023 22:26

Holiday in England, but 3 year old dd had a thing for toasties at the time so we took the toastie machine at her request Grin. It was actually a great idea and I have done it several times since.

whoruntheworldgirls · 26/07/2023 22:28

I'll be taking a kettle to California, does that count?! Don't want to use the coffee makers so taking the kettle we bought last time to make our tea/coffee (also taking that)

LouLou198 · 26/07/2023 22:28

@JackyinaTracky that is actually a really good idea. I will be doing this in future, thank you.

A multi point electric extension lead-then you only need 1 adapter plug

I must have one of these!

Chewbecca · 26/07/2023 22:31

Masking tape is always something I regret not taking when a little green or red light is winking at me in the night.
So if anyone is packing from this thread - don't forget the MASKING TAPE!

Jakadaal · 26/07/2023 22:31

My trusty one cup coffee filter
Ground coffee
A mug
Clothes pegs
Ikea zip top plastic bags

They go everywhere - home or abroad

Love the soap shavings!

elQuintoConyo · 26/07/2023 15:40

An old chewing gum tub full of soap shavings! Close to your peeler.

It´s a small waterproof tub with a flip lid. I shave the short end of a bar of soap into little curls and store them, then have them at hand if I need to wash my hands where there´s no soap. I initially made it for camping, but it works on the beach, in restaurants/bars, by a lake, picnic on the river etc.

That’s a genius idea 💡

gogomoto · 26/07/2023 22:34

Corkscrew, gin, wine and mixers (cruise) not that weird.

For road trips I take a bread knife, sachets of mayo, a knife for spreading and corkscrew

CoffeeDrinkerLatte · 26/07/2023 22:38

I sleep with a single duvet on my bed so I’ve always got cover when OH hogs the big king size duvet.

we flew to Greece with it.

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 26/07/2023 22:40

A universal bath plug

FrankTurnersCat · 26/07/2023 22:45

Not wishing to bring the mood down but I'm packing a portion of my mum's ashes to take away next week. I've got all the relevant paperwork & we're going to stay with her best friend so Mum can be in the part of the world she was happiest. Its a good flight away so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly

Lagershandy · 26/07/2023 22:52

We like the bedroom pitch black, and sleep masks irritate me so we always take a black plastic tablecloth I buy from Poundland at Halloween and a set of clamps and fix them to the hotel curtains.
If we are on holiday in the U.K. I also pack a double bedsheet, as I dislike just having a duvet and no top sheet. I have never been able to travel light!

Sorry you’ve lost your mum…if it puts your mind at ease, my sister has just flown with ashes at the weekends and there weren’t any questions at all

YawnyMcdawny · 26/07/2023 22:58

Tin foil And sellotape.

Tin foil makes 100% perfect blackout blind against windows.

I've used it for years at random Places, mostly UK accommodation now I think about it. and I don't care if it makes it look like a drug den from the outside!

MotherOfClogs · 26/07/2023 23:06

@YawnyMcdawny using this trick (learned on mn a few years ago) right now in DC room!

Small roll of gaffer tape was my super power in backpacker days. I've fixed shoes, glasses and more with it.

tt9 · 26/07/2023 23:08

I take my own toilet paper... I'm addicted to andrex quilts. and at least 4 pairs of knickers for every day because I am paranoid.

Me too! Always take a CO and a smoke detector. Especially if staying in AirBnBs / rentals.
