What’s the most random thing you are packing in your suitcase for holidays?

I will start, we are about to go on a fly cruise, just packing the cases and for my toddler I am packing a straight vegetable peeler. He likes apples a lot, but doesn’t like the skin so we have to peel it off.
I figured they will most likely have apples on the buffet on board but it feels like a faff to find someone and ask them to peel it for him therefore I have brought a new peeler to pack in his case this morning.

Asked DP to guess what the most random thing we are packing to take with us was and he guessed potatoes close but no 😂

Can anyone beat a peeler?

A multi point electric extension lead-then you only need 1 adapter plug

This isn't random. It's normal.

I always take sellotape on holiday, which my husband finds hilarious, but it's so useful! I mostly use it to tape up toiletries so they don't leak in the suitcase, but I've also used it for an emergency sandles fix in the past, and for taping up food packaging etc.

I was most upset when my roll of sellotape was confiscated at airport security once - they must have thought I was planning on taking someone hostage with it 🤔

I take duck tape. Use it every single time!

Loopyloooooo · 26/07/2023 19:02

A bed...bet noone can beat that 🤣

Teabags, kettle, individual milk sachets and a big mug. Can’t be doing with a small mug of tea.

A bottle of Heinz salad cream - to enjoy the salad buffet 😋

Sandwich bags for opened packets of ham etc.

We went to stay on a chilly Scottish island at Easter..
Ds 13 pulled from his bag.....

Not this year, but in the past, some insulating tape, perfect for keeping a half-detached toenail in place while doing watersports.

Kitten kibble. My daughter LOVES hotel cats, over the years we've fed various bits of hotel buffet and I ended up bringing tupperware to take away plain meat / fish. Last year we brought dreamies and this year I've gone all out (by which I mean a £3 box of kibble).

We do different hotels every year, but there's always a litter of kittens.

That's on top of towel clips, laundry pegs (to stop swimwear flying off the balcony whilst drying), extra hangers, multi USB plug and my own decaf tea/coffee.

The most random things I ever packed were two cat feeders cages, chip activated. I've also packed seven packs of fixodent, a number of warming blankets (the kind that marathon users are swathed in) and a large number of energy bars.

An electric anti cold sore device. It has a spot at the tip that heats up that you put on the prospective cold sore to stop it developing. Had it over a year and it seems to work.

But the big news is I got a mosquito bite a few days ago. I had read that if you put a hot spoon on a bite it stops the itching and swelling. Instead I used the Cold Sore device. IT WORKED! I usually get v itchy bites.

Will be adding it to my packing list from now on.

A plastic rolling pin (that looks like a giant sex toy when it goes through the scanner 😩)
My autistic son won't sleep without pinpin on his bedside cabinet at home or away 🤷‍♀️

MuggleMe · 26/07/2023 20:31

UK holiday so more space for random stuff, but the weirdest is a large 30 minute egg timer (or dd2 will tell me after 3 mins of trying that she can't get to sleep).

loafme · 26/07/2023 20:38

A silicon bottle cleaning brush. Bought one just for holidays so I can keep it in my "useful things for holidays" bag. We always use our own water bottles and used to make do with a scrubbing sponge and shaking it with soapy water, but the water tastes so much better when I'm able to give it a proper scrub clean. Also in my useful things: sellotape, ball of string, sandwich bags, little clips to seal crisp bags, rubber gloves.

Heat pad that goes in microwave for chronic tummy pain thanks IBS Envy

Parkrun barcodes as we are regulars and are running the local to us (Europe) parkrun.

I take those pop up net food covers. We usually go self catering and I get sick of the flies trying to get to the food!

An old chewing gum tub full of soap shavings! Close to your peeler.

It´s a small waterproof tub with a flip lid. I shave the short end of a bar of soap into little curls and store them, then have them at hand if I need to wash my hands where there´s no soap. I initially made it for camping, but it works on the beach, in restaurants/bars, by a lake, picnic on the river etc.

This is an AMAZING idea. goes upstairs to grate a bar of soap. Thank you!

A wooden broom handle. We camp in a bell tent with a centre pole and attach a broom handle to the pole with zip ties in case of high winds.

DaVinyl · 26/07/2023 21:41

The soda stream. DH can't bare to be parted from it. Obviously, we having a UK holiday.

Eh? You need to expand 😂

Simonjt · 26/07/2023 21:44

I always take my spice tin and a rolling pin to make roti also take a douche

ProfessorLayton1 · 26/07/2023 21:49

Tupperware boxes for picnic, so everyone have their own container. Cling film, food ties or clips.
