Barcelona with limited mobility

Have any of you brilliant mumsnetters been to Barcelona with limited mobility?

I had a nasty accident on Sunday when I came of my bike at speed. Thankfully nothing broken but my hips and legs took the brunt and I'm still pretty beaten up.

I can't walk very well at the moment - it's pretty painful.

I'm off to Barcelona on Friday and just trying to work out whether I could go. My OH says to come and we can hang out in coffee shops and bars.

Online reports seem to say Barcelona is pretty good for those with limited mobility. I could even hire a scooter!

What would you do?

Go - you’ll make it work. I agree with your DH and you can hang out in cafes, you might have to take a few more taxis than you would have done.

You could consider a cane - I just had a hip replacement and got around Paris really well with a cane - it just took a bit of the strain off my hip. Just remember you hold it in the opposite hand to your (most) injured side.

Also, go on your flight booking and add airport assistance because it’s actually waking and queuing in the airport is a killer. And airport assistance is free and provides you with a wheelchair or golf cart and you get to miss all the queues.

That's great advice Cherry - I hadn't thought about getting airport assistance. I've got walking poles which might work to take a bit of weight off.

I'm feeling a bit more like it might be doable - thank you so much!!!

some mobility scooter places deliver to the hotel.Use a cane when needed but enjoy your holiday rent a scooter. Its so much nicer with less pain.

When i went to salou it allowed me to go around town, explore and enjoy myself.Shops you need to leave scooter outside unless its very big.

Right...

  • airport assistance booked
  • walking stick ordered
  • mobility scooters investigated

Thank you both so much for excellent advice. I've got this Smile
