Weirdest thing you’ve found in your hedge

We’ve just been cutting our hedges and I’m quite taken aback at how much crap people have thrown in there (beer bottles, screwed up coke cans, giant water bottles).

I once found a plastic bag of rubbish in my compost bin. Someone would have had to walk into my garden and go up a slope into the bushes to find it (unless they pushed through a prickly hedge).

A pair of well worn trainers.
They were neatly place in our bushes - perhaps someone was coming back for them? They went straight in the bin.

A scary looking soviet style plastic rabbit.

I really hope that isn't some kind of highly specialist 'marital aid' - strictly for use for dutiful procreative purposes only, by order of N Khrushchev Grin

What makes a plastic rabbit soviet style 😂

This sort of thing 😂 the Soviets excelled at making scary children's toys

A watch
Sledge
Golf cart
Hammer
Metal bar
Sand bag
Wing mirror
Hub cap
Usual rubbish that folk chuck out of cars, drinks cans, crisp packets etc. We did once have a full pizza in a box 🤷‍♀️

stbrandonsboat · 26/07/2023 16:54

Try googling 'scary Russian playgrounds'

Camdenish · 26/07/2023 16:54

Who has still got hedges? Haven’t yours all been eaten by box moth?

Anyhow, before the great bug nosh, our hedge has little plastic bags of dope in.

LoonyLois · 26/07/2023 17:04

Sorry this thread is amusing me far more than it should!!!

Ive never found anything other than empty crisp packets

A pair of shit-filled jogging bottoms.

Just made me lol 😂

CruCru · 26/07/2023 17:25

Not in, but buried under a hedge at the bottom of our garden - this is surrounded by fields and in a very rural area, no-one passing by - we found an onyx egg, 3 very tiny terracotta plantpots (less than 1 inch tall), and a piece of carved marble that looks like it's off a Roman tomb or suchlike.

This sounds like a pet grave ?

I just did. Very disturbing. How don't all Russian kids have nightmares ?

LuluGuinea · 26/07/2023 17:31

All have had in my hedge is stupid crisp packets, drinks cans, sweet wrappers and MacDonalds cartons. It's annoying. There is a bin just yards from my house on a public footpath. Why can't people just use bins??

Ha ha! I kind of knew what you meant, bit like 1950’s dolls

InSpainTheRain · 26/07/2023 19:12

I once found a porn mag rolled up in our hedge when I was a child of about 10 (now late 50s). I knew it was "wrong" but I didn't know why or really what it was. But I was then petrified because I didn't know how to get rid of it! I couldn't throw it away in the dustbin as my mum would find it, I was too scared to tell my parents, I couldn't put it back without anyone seeing! I was in a right panic!!

I kept it for ages hidden in my bedroom under carpet in my wardrobe. One day when I went to see my Grandad I took it with me and asked him to help me and he disposed of it!

fantasmasgoria1 · 26/07/2023 23:01

Shit filled jogging bottoms 🤣

Geordielass1987 · 26/07/2023 23:09

when I was young and first started going out I didn’t want to walk to the bus in my heels so I used to walk in flats and hide them in a bush on a corner house and collect them on my way home 😂 once ended up walking to a friends house with other mates, change of plans so we went past my chosen bush and I did a quick shoe change so I didn’t have to walk far in heels.

RuthTopp · 26/07/2023 23:11

We have a waist height wall and a hedge above it . Also a bus stop . Lots of fast food containers , coke cans , crisp packets get chucked over the wall by the bus stop.
Worryingly also found a pair of bolt croppers & a machete together. We reported to the police and they asked us to drop them off to the police station.

MissingMoominMamma · 26/07/2023 23:25

I used to ‘store’ my school shoes in a hedge on the corner of our street and change into my trainers. When asked at school, I’d say I’d grown out of my school shoes and my mum was too poor to buy me new ones.

ArmTights · 26/07/2023 23:34

A peacock.

dearJayne · 26/07/2023 23:57

I always find crisp packets in my hedge, I don't ever see anyone putting them there. Not sure if the wind blows them in or something.

Sonolanona · 27/07/2023 00:27

When I was 11 or twelve my best friend (male) and I found a huge stash of porn mags and videos under our hedge (which had a wall round it so someone had dumped the lot thinking it wouldn't be found)... I still remember flicking through the magazines and being faintly horrified but mildly excited at the pictures.

My friend took the videos home!!!

These days we just find crisp packets, beer cans and fag butts... it's on the route back to the local RAF camp!

We always find bread. Frequently, once ot twice monthly or more we find bread. It's not buttered or something that seems like it was part of a sandwhich. We suspect a neighbours put it out for some creature and then it makes its way to our shrubbery.

We get Yorkshire puds, neighbours put them out for the birds, crows pick them up then drop them over mine!

MessyRaptor · 27/07/2023 00:42

I think I've posted it before but this was in our hedge 😬
