Did anyone else want false teeth when they were a child ?

Because of the adverts for denture stuff? I just saw an ad on here for fixodent and I remember as a child probably late 80s/early 90s being mesmerised by the adverts for all these adhesive type things being squeezed onto what I think was bits of glass ? To show how well it stuck things then all these older people eating apples and crusty bread and to me it seemed to be something to aim. To be really ‘grown up’ 😂😂😂

Im 40 now and I have no desire at all for dentures !

No but I absolutelylove this story and remember those adverts!!

PurpleChrayne · 25/07/2023 22:05

No but I really wanted to wear a wig, since sending off for a wig catalogue from the back of my Nana's magazine.

Yes!! I remember thinking it must be amazing to be able to eat as many sweets as you like because it didn't matter Grin

I remember those ads in the back of magazines! I used to read my grandmas ones and I really wanted things like the milk bottle holder with a extra long handle 😂

I always wanted braces! I would bend lolly sticks round my teeth 🤷🏻‍♀️

FloweryName · 25/07/2023 22:11

😂 Yes! It looked so convenient to have false teeth! I thought it would mean no more dentist visits ever and no fillings.

I wanted a Stannah stairlift, those looked fun!

Romeiswheretheheartis · 25/07/2023 22:13

I did - my teeth were really badly crooked and braces were nowhere near as good as they are now. I longed for nice straight (false) teeth.

Clarabe1 · 25/07/2023 22:13

No I had a horror of false teeth because I saw my nana’s and Grandads teeth in a glass by the side of their bed! I do remember wanting a wig though. They used to sell them in posh department stores when I was a kid and I had my eye on a long blonde one. I was desperate to try it on because I thought I would look like my Sindy doll and be gorgeous 😂

LadyWiddiothethird · 25/07/2023 22:13

Not false teeth,I wanted protruding ones ,I used to pretend they were by sticking them out over my bottom lip.

TomatoSandwiches · 25/07/2023 22:14

😂😂😂 no.

I did want Thing from The Aadams Family as a pet though.

MackenCheese · 25/07/2023 22:14

I was terrified of my great grandmother's false teeth in a glass!

babygirl88 · 25/07/2023 22:14

8/9 years I used to bite the insides of my cheeks because i wanted dimples. Also the desperationnn for crutches.

I didn't personally but I know what you mean/are talking about! 😂

AlbertaIsHere · 25/07/2023 22:18

My Granny was born in 1901 and she got married when she was 21.

For a wedding present her and my grandfather had their teeth pulled out and replaced with dentures.

ShockShockShock

I used to want glasses too and would fake not being able to see in eye tests but I think they knew and said I had ‘20/20 vision’ I was SO annoyed. I had this image of a very mature grown up me with glasses , braces and false teeth getting my milk in each day without having to bend down !

Handsnotwands · 25/07/2023 22:56

I made myself braces out of a broken plastic bangle 🤪

i was also jealous of my friend who had a big plaster patch on one of her glasses lenses (pink nhs glasses as was the style at the time)

I was very very disappointed by how not fun they are when my grandparents got one.

The next best thing after a stairlift would have been polished wooden banisters to slide down. That's a different demographic though!
