New cleaner today. Never used a cleaner before so no idea!

I booked a local cleaner today to do a deep clean as for ages I’ve been just cleaning where I can see.

I have a medium sized 4 bed house, 3 doubles, 1 box room. I bathroom, 1 en-suite and 1 cloakroom. 2 reception rooms and a large kitchen.

I specifically wanted all skirting cleaning, window frames where needed and the shower given a good clean.

2 cleaners, 3 hours. So 6 hours of cleaning.

They turned up 15 minutes late, left 15 minutes early. Nice ladies but chatted an awful lot. I went around afterwards and the bathrooms were still a little dusty in places, floors still had some hairs and dust. They’d used lots of zoflora 🤢 so everything smelled strong but they missed completely the second reception room apart from a cursory dust and their idea of mopping the hard floors was two squirts of some fluid and a quick wipe with the mop head in the middle of the room.

The stair handrails weren’t cleaned, some pictures were still dusty along the top. Chests of drawers and bedside tables not cleared off or wiped. Shower tray itself not cleaned but the glass was.

I didn’t feel they were particularly thorough, there were dog biscuits under the TV cabinet and the sofa was covered on dog hair. The carpets had been vacuumed though.

You could see the house was cleaner but id tidied everything away so all they had to do was clean.

I think I expected a deeper clean that I would have done myself with furniture pulled out etc. The 3 hours / 2 cleaners was £90.

Was I expecting too much in the timeframe (even though they actually were only here 2.5 hours) I’ve never had a cleaner before and I don’t know what to expect. Not sure it was worth the £90? Any thoughts?

That doesn’t sound very good. Although I’ve not found a cleaner to be great at doing a deep clean, it works better for maintenance cleaning IMO.

MargosMangos · 25/07/2023 20:43

Take photos then tell them see if they want to rectify it first, I wouldn't be happy
Are they an from a local agency or independent?

Bonfire23 · 25/07/2023 20:47

That doesn't sound right at all
I'm not a cleaner but if I was doing a deep clean, unless the place was REALLY cluttered I would be moving what I could, wiping/hoovering and putting it back
Like if I wipe my bedside table, I take everything off it

Some of the side bed tables had been done, it just seemed in some rooms they’d rushed and they’d been left.
it just wasn’t as thorough as I’d hoped.
I have to smile though, they deliberately moved ornaments and left them moved as of to show they’d been cleaned. Nice little paper bows on the loo paper too. I’d much rather it be deep cleaned!

They’re independent. They have had lots of recommendations on local pages but I think they just have a lot of friends 😒

I'd be fuming with that result. I wouldn't use them again.

Youremyshininglight · 25/07/2023 21:26

I wouldn't be happy and you've had an hours less cleaning in total as half an hour each!

Tillyteacup · 25/07/2023 21:30

2 hours for £90 so £45 an hour? That's shocking and especially as they haven’t done a proper job !

that is not a “medium sized” house.

not suprised they couldn’t do a thorough deep clean.

however they should have told you that. Or agreed they deep clean parts and left others. The lateness isn’t acceptable either.

RocketIceLollie · 25/07/2023 21:54

Why did they leave early? Especially seeing as they turned up late. Can get a lot done in half hour them combined.

I have someone coming to me for a deep clean in Aug. I have a similar size house, but we are not in as good shape regarding tidiness etc. I also have 2 indoor cats so massive dust/fur issue (never again!). She has asked for £15 per hour for a deep clean, but is using my products. She is also very chatty - I know her through work. So we have split the time 8 hours - over 2 days and I have made a list of priority rooms and what I want doing in each room. The idea will be to really give her the time to do those fully first and any thing else will be a bonus. So a minimum will be kitchen, utility, downstairs cloak, stairs, hall and landing, both bathrooms, my bedroom and a spare bed, living room. I felt that was fair to her (due to my chaos) and I would get most of the house cleaned properly.

Fudgewomble · 25/07/2023 21:58

Sounds terrible. And they ripped you off to the tune of £15. While they might not be able to get through what you expect in that time, they should be working for the full amount of the contracted time. I pay a lady £15 / hour for 5 hours of cleaning and she would get through a house your size in that time.

Rainbowqueeen · 25/07/2023 22:08

Even if they didn’t have enough time to finish I would expect that the rooms that were done were actually deep cleaned and it doesn’t sound like that is the case

I’d try someone else next time.

Oohiwonder · 26/07/2023 09:11

@Starburstscent not in east Suffolk by chance are you? Sounds like a couple of cleaners i constantly see tagged over local pages, lots of friend recommendations but no actual client ones.
But yes, they sound no good, and to provide such a bad service on a first clean they’re likely to be even worse as they go on. I’d not use them again. And you’re definitely not be unreasonable
