Thinking this year I won't buy for OH (& ask them not to buy for me) - anyone else doing this or already do this?

We do this some years and some years have a £25 or 50 budget and Urdu ally stuff like slippers/pjs/socks . We never buy each other big things.

We don't buy for each other, but have a weekend away later instead. We are grown ups, have everything we need and don't like the twee gift giving thing. Sorry for being a bah humbug.

We only give gifts (money) to nieces and nephews under 21 also. Makes Xmas so much more enjoyable not having to prance around buying crap.

We’ve never bought each other Christmas gifts. Been together 26 years. Don’t see the point

noglow · 25/07/2023 19:10

We're having a £5 budget.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/07/2023 19:11

We don’t buy for adults- sometimes I get a present for DH from the kids- but really follow the idea that Xmas is for kids.

7Worfs · 25/07/2023 19:13

We have stockings and a token present we need anyway (woolly hat, warm slippers etc). At our ages Christmas is making sure the children have a lovely time. 🎄

Me neither. We do have little tokens like chocolate, booze etc, but if it's something I have to wear, use or look at, I want to choose it myself and once I've done that, I might as well just buy it, so I have it when I need it, it won't sell out etc.

Plus if I've had to say to DP 'buy me X and we'll pretend it's from you for Christmas' then it's not from him at all, as he's not done anything thinking or choosing.

We give each other stockings and those will be good, with lovely treaty things in them.

We never do anything for birthdays tho. This year I got a pot plant that I chose.

Keykaty · 25/07/2023 19:21

Save the planet, buy no crap.

CeriB82 · 25/07/2023 19:22

@BarbaraofSeville we dont do birthdays neither. As you said, if you want it buy it yourself. Then again, im not a materialistic person. I hate being given stuff that I didn’t choose. There’s the obligation to like it and wear it.

Can you stick this in the Christmas board? So depressing to see in July.
