Am I unlucky or is this just how things are these days?

As a one off treat I decided to get my house cleaned. The cleaners broke an appliance which cost me £60 to get fixed.

I had to get an electrician in for a small job. It cost me £50 but I later realised he did something that has caused another problem, so now I need to pay to get that fixed.

We got a company in to freshen up the bathroom. Lovely. Until… a couple of the wall tiles cracked.

We needed our gutters doing so got someone in to do that. Except, we realised afterwards that they’ve caused another issue on the roof so we now need to get them back to sort it.

All these people are well established with lots of good reviews. Is there no such thing as doing a job right first time these days? Are we just unlucky?

Why haven't you asked the cleaner, electrician etc to cover the cost of the damage that they caused?

They can either pay it themselves or give you their insurance details, but either way, it's their responsibility to make it right if they are liable for the damage.

Yeah we end up with scenarios like this OP. Everyone else has such nice houses and we just can’t get there it seems!

They should pay for this though; our cleaner has insurance for this which I checked before she started. However generally I do find that with my house and appliance it’s one thing after another

This is exactly what insurance is for. All those people would have insurance so stop paying out and start getting them to sort things out.

YANBU. I seem to have this kind of ‘bad luck’. Everything I do or attempt goes wrong in some way, it’s infuriating.

Maybe I am too British but there is no way I would raise this with them - I just wouldn’t use them again or recommend them to others. I did ask the gutter cleaners to come back though, although I am still waiting…

Also I imagine these people would just deny doing it, it would be super awkward!
