I'm waiting on my DBS, does anyone know how long they are taking currently?

Seems to vary. My son's took many weeks last year, a friend's came back in two weeks!

Off hand- no, but the .gov website says 14 days. I would assume it depends whether you've had one before and what level of cover you've applied for?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/07/2023 10:41

I've just had one done, it took just over a week

Jeannieofthelamp · 25/07/2023 10:42

It depends because the information is collected from the separate police forces that cover the addresses you have lived in over the past 5 years. So if you have lived in 3 police areas, you are waiting for 3 forces to provide information. Some forces are super quick and efficient, others are not so much. If you've lived in the same place you have more chance of a quick response.

My DS received him within 10 days, about a month ago

WAC1 · 25/07/2023 10:45

Mine just took 65 days. It was an absolute disaster and has caused many many issues with an unintentional break in service, meaning I have not been eligible for a bonus and I am not eligible for maternity pay. Devastating

immy324 · 25/07/2023 10:54

O no at @WAC1 that's not good.

I have had plenty of DBS checks before and luckily I have month till my new job starts, but I know what DBS checks can be like! Only lives within one force so should be fine! Hopefully won't be too long.

It's a conditional offer till everything is complete (nhs) so its just a waiting game!

I’m another one who has taken ages, 63 days now. But have only lived at one address in the last 5 years and have had them many times before. My last one (in the same police area) a few years ago took a couple of weeks. I escalated yesterday but no more movement yet.

I have a conditional offer too, but unfortunately for me I need an unconditional one before I can get my mortgage and relocate. So I’m in major limbo right now.

Mine took a week a few months ago despite having multiple addresses including a foreign one. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to it. DHs took a similar time.

I did wonder if having a rare surname helps...

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 25/07/2023 23:10

My last one (earlier this year) took about 36 hours! ID checks entered on the system at around 7pm on Tuesday, email telling me the certificate had been issued received 10.45 on Thursday.

Toasty280 · 25/07/2023 23:14

I did two in May for new staff, one came back in a week, still waiting for the other one

FranKatzenjammer · 25/07/2023 23:17

Mine has just come back in under 24 hours!

cherryassam · 25/07/2023 23:18

I got one a few weeks ago, filled in the form online and got the certificate through my door 2 days later. I couldn’t believe it!

immy324 · 26/07/2023 00:10

Thanks all, the online checker is still showing as at stage 2!

Processed two last Monday - got notice of one with 36 hours and the other 5 days.

I don’t think it really makes any difference. My surname is rare (nothing to do with my username), and still taken forever this time around.

Thanks everyone I have just over a month till my new job so hope no issues

Has your dbs come back now @immy324 or are you still waiting?

Mine had been stuck with the police for their checks for 4 weeks now and I'm really starting to worry. I'm due to start a new job in September but won't be able to if my dbs isn't back yet and my current employer have now taken me off payroll and told me my last day of employment is the end of the month despite me not having formally resigned yet (I told them out of courtesy before references were taken etc but didn't put anything in writing with a leaving date etc.) so I'm really worried I'm not going to have a job to go to if the dbs takes much longer!
