Is it my personality or my hair ? (Pic attached )

Ok , so I’m getting fed up now as this has happened before , with this same hairdresser and with previous , is it me , is it my hair , do I talk too much to distract them ? - because I have anxiety .

But this is my roots , after having them done the weekend , is this serious ! Or am I missing something where hairdressers don’t go near the scalp anymore .

I absolutely love my hairdresser it’s Like a social occasion going to her , but at this point that’s the only reason I am going to her, as it’s clearly not for my roots to be done …..and as this has happened before so I can’t go back and moan again as I feel like a complainer, which I hate coming across as .

opinions please
oh ps sorry about hair I’ve just had to dry shampoo before work …. Honest I’m not a dandruff queen .

I don't really understand your question but she hasn't done a good job, that's probably down to her skills not because you're chatty.

Easyontheeyes · 25/07/2023 09:20

I’d be going somewhere else.

SBHon · 25/07/2023 09:21

I would get back in touch with her and explain that you’re not happy (don’t minimise it by saying things like you’re too chatty!). Give her the chance to put it right and if she doesn’t then find another hairdresser.

She may be lovely as a person OP but she isn't a very good hairdresser. I would definitely go elsewhere next time. Also your natural colour is dark so I would perhaps go for a colour that blends in more to your natural colour. You can also have more than one colour added. A good hairdresser will be able to recommend which colours would look best.

AngelsandAliens · 25/07/2023 09:27

Thanks for your reply , I suppose my question is am I putting her off by talking , or is this just bad hair ? And realistically that I’m not expecting too much for wanting it to the scalp ?

You are not putting her off by chatting too much. She is doing a bad job - she isn't giving you a good blend of colours and she isn't applying it all the way to the roots. What is the effect that you are going for colour wise? Not wanting to offend you, but its really harsh looking. A week in (heck, even a month in), it should be lovely and natural looking with different shades catching the light, not a two tone black and bleach effect.

FoFanta · 25/07/2023 09:34

Find a new hairdresser, who can make it feel like a social occasion and make your hair look fabulous.

Enko · 25/07/2023 09:36

You don't have "bad hair" your hairdresser is just not very good.

Enko · 25/07/2023 09:38

Op this is my hair. I last got it done on the 1st of July. I have less roots than you do.

I used to be a colourist, started in the 80s. Sorry to say that looks like highlights done back then. You need to have different shades or you may as well be having a full head tint.
I should really go back to colouring ( do a different job now) as I see so much bad work.

Wellshellsbells · 25/07/2023 09:41

Highlights don’t touch the scalp .your hair is so dark (I presume you want to be blonde) there is such a contrast between your natural and the light blonde that any growth at all will make it look darker on the root.there are so many factors and if it has happened with other hair stylists too it’s not necessarily the stylists fault.maybe try asking for a more low maintenance colour .balayage maybe or more lowlights..

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/07/2023 09:42

In my experience if I'm getting carried away with chatting the hairdresser usually goes a bit quiet and I take the hint they're trying to concentrate and shut up lol. It's down to them to block you out or just say something like head down please just at a tricky bit

Fbshe · 25/07/2023 09:50

Mines the same, I’ve decided I don’t want the blonde anymore because of it, can I just swap and have brown highlights instead or is it not as easy as that?

FKATondelayo · 25/07/2023 10:00

I have hair a similar colour to yours. I have scattered highlights (no bleach) a mix of tones but only a couple of shades lighter. They are randomly put through my hair so I never get roots (no stripes) and get it done 2 x a year. The effect is similar to have beachy sun kissed hair rather than blonde. That might work.

It's really hard to find a good colourist. For years I got ones who kept putting peroxide highlights in and that is a slippery slope to basically having bleached hair and needing your roots doing after every meal.

Thanks so much for all replies, I appreciate all the comments .

Not that I’m sticking up for the hair but apart from the root bits I’m quite happy with the colour I have a couple of colours but yeah I’m unsure why I always have a patch of root.

its just disappointing, i went back last time and she corrected the same issue so you think she would make sure that it didn’t happen this time and it has ., I think that’s why I just feel like is it me ! Or my hair .

Here is the overall colour , which I don’t think looks too 80s lol ? But I get what you saying from close up as looks a bit like the cap highlights , it’s not I promise .

not sure whether to mention it again as just feel like I’m a moaner , I’ll have think over the day .

she is also a friend of a friend which makes it feel awkward for me , I am kinda awkward in general .

The rest of your hair looks gorgeous, i'd try once more and ask her to get as close to the scalp as possible

She’s a doing a bad job root wise. Maybe she’s doom it so you return sooner?

The other thing you should be careful about, she’s the friend of a friend, so you probably don’t feel like you can complain or say too much due to this, maybe it’s cheaper too? Don’t make the mistake like I did of thinking hairdressers are friends as they’re not, they may be friendly but you’re getting a service and it should be a business transaction.

You should be able to chat whilst someone is doing your hair. I’ve had loads of highlights appointments over the year and it’s boring getting them done and any decent colourist will be fine with whatever you do and work with you.

This! I disagree with others saying not it's not a nice colour. I quite like it but she probably should have used a bit of toner (not sure it's toner but it goes in at the end) which is what mine did to make it all blend in.
The not so close to the scalp thing I've had too and if I'm happy with the rest of the job I ask for it.
I wonder if she's not using particularly good products and doesn't want your hair to fall off at the root.

All colours use peroxide. You mean bleach.

Op yes looks better in latest pic.

tootsierubs · 25/07/2023 12:28

I have the same as you so I ask for a root smudge which gets rid of that hard line.
