My children's grandad. On their dads side recently died . When I asked them if they were upset/sad they said not really but we have happy memories of him. They are 7&8

Mine quite young, but my mum died when I was a child so they always knew that and asked questions from very small.

My youngest is 3 next month, our cat died a few months ago and she was upset. She knew that he died and wasn’t coming back. She says he is dead and in heaven with Jesus.

Were they close to him?

My DD was two and a quarter when her dad, my DH, died suddenly. She was profoundly disturbed for six months afterwards, and lost all her sense of security. I think the impact of a death depends on how close the deceased relative was.
