Blood test result help to understand. Low ferritin, not anaemic

My blood tests show red blood cells as just out of range on the high side. Ferritin levels are 6 so low. Prescribed iron and hoping it helps soon but wondering how one is low and the other high. Is the red blood cell count the one that determine anemia diagnosis?

Following as I have the exact same. Wasn’t given a diagnosis of iron-deficiency anaemia on my GP notes or even told to return for a follow-up at the end of the course of iron tablets…
What’s the red blood cell test you are just out of range on? Mine was the MCH and EMCH, which were slightly too high. I think this means my red blood cells are pinker than they should be, which is because of iron-deficiency. But the GP was so un-bothered and clearly thought I was making all my symptoms up that she brushed me off with a quick reluctant prescription and out the door.
I’ve also started taking folic acid and vitamin D as I’ve heard they can boost ferritin.

I had the same. Non anaemic iron deficiency

Had iron tablets for 3 months and it rose from 6 into the 60s and I stopped the iron although I was told to take 1 a day til my periods stopped

I just had a look online and I think HB level rather than RBC indicates anemia. I was surprised I wasn't anemic as I am feeling the kind of tiredness I associate with anemia in past.

Hope you feel better soon @RosiePH .

Great that it increased so quickly @RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer .
In the past I have felt better quite quickly too though never returned for a retest.
