What to do when you have no career aspirations?!

I really want a good career, something I can go upwards in. But every single thing I look at as a possibility, whether that’s retraining or apprenticeship, I just have no interest!

I’m currently a nurse but want out. It’s not at all what I thought it’d be, and to be honest I think it was the wrong path for me.

What made me go into it? Well, I’m fascinated with the workings of the brain and I wanted to help people (mental health), however it’s just not been how I thought it would.

I’ve already made peace with that and am trying to think of what else I could do, but the struggle is I just have no interest in anything!

My interests outside of work are generic - reading, video games, art.

Am I just doomed to have no proper career?
Ive tried the national careers service, and all manner of various quizzes/skill assessments etc. Nothing ever jumps out and it’s so frustrating!

The reason you’re feeling this way is you don’t like your job. Is not that you have no career aspirations it’s that this job isn’t doing it for you. So you need to look at what you can do, what aspects you enjoy and try and use that to make a side step abs then an upwards trajectory.

I would look around within the health care area.

There are many routes you can take nursing and you will always be able to get work.

Perhaps look at child mental health, eating disorders, anything that you feel you would be more beneficial.
