Giant marbles

My child is fascinated with marbles and would love some of the giant ones. I know I can buy them online, but I’d really love to take them into a store so they can have the experience of choosing the ones they love from a dazzling display. Does anyone know any stores that have these? When I was a kid we used to go to Boswell’s department store in Oxford but that has since closed and I’ve not had any luck finding them elsewhere!

Whereabouts are you? The House of Marbles in Devon is great. And sells hundreds of marbles in all sizes!

I second House of Marbles. Best toy shop if you like old fashioned toys too.

House of marbles is just a bit too far for us to be feasible. Over the summer we will be doing Kent, London, Oxford, Bedfordshire, Cotswolds, New Forest, so anywhere in those regions or that we might pass on travels between places would be ideal!

Following with interest as a 47yo who still has her childhood marble collection and is always up for adding more 😊

Hamleys used to have a display selection when i was last in there pre-covid.

Did anyone watch Antiques Roadshow tonight? Small orange marble, size of a cherry tomato, £200,000 if I heard it correctly!

Couple of random musings. If in Cotswolds try Snowshill Manor OP? Not to buy marbles but look at the collections generally. Years ago I chanced upon an antique village in Weedon, Northamptonshire. There was a few cases dedicated to marbles.

Ooh - not sure why I didn’t think of Hamley’s! We have some additional needs to contend with that potentially make venturing into central London during school holidays a stressful concept, but if anyone is able to confirm that they have marbles (specifically GIANT ones!) then it might be worth the stress and a good focus for a day out in the city.

Hamleys!
That wasn't a marble, it was a pearl on antiques roadshow!!

Chatillon · 23/07/2023 22:44

Oh, a pearl! That makes sense now. So round!

Hamleys Deffo have giant marbles. It’s like the breakfast at Tiffany’s experience, the most affordable thing in the store 🤣

Yes - I can imagine I’ll have to do a lot of prep beforehand to make sure DS understands we’re not buying ALL the toys in the shop 😆

Just giving this a hopeful bump today anyway in case anyone knows of other places you can buy them - I feel like there must be some gifts shops/garden centres of similar that would stock them, but locating them is tricky!

You could try and email House of Marbles to ask them? They may know of some other good stores that stock their stuff?

Custardslice3 · 24/07/2023 15:54

@JollyJunee thank you, that's a good idea. I did have a look on their website to see if they had any info about stockists, but couldn't see anything.

They seem to sell them in the gift shop of every museum we visit. Any museum or attraction/zoo/animal park etc seem to have them.
