Anyone used wattpad? Is it suitable for teens?

I saw it recommended on a Facebook thread, I had never heard of it before. My ds loves to read and wants to try some writing too. Is there anything I should know? I searched on mumsnet here and not much came up on previous threads.

Wattpad is a wonderful platform for readers and writers, but not so much for minors. Most of the stories contain high amounts of explicit sex, abuse and other questionable behavior (is what they call "Dark Romance"). It's a platform that offers many opportunities for young writers, but without supervision, it can be problematic.

I looked at for fanfic to read a few years ago. The writing was so bad - spelling, grammar, everything - was so bad I never bothered again.

It's full of porn, some of it...shall we say...niche, with horrific spelling and grammar. I don't go near it myself, never mind let kids on it

Depending what he likes to write, I'd recommend Archive of Our Own over Wattpad.

Thanks everyone that’s good to know. Will definitely avoid. I did see a mention of porn somewhere but wondered if there was a way to avoid it. Will look in to archive of our own.
