Just sat down in m and s for coffee in virtually empty cafe and older man - very chatty and confident has sat down right next to me.

internally I’m screaming F off

I could move but that’s gonna look totally obvious as to my F off feeling

Not creepy but a very male trait of not giving a fuck about their impact in other peoples space.

littleblackcat27 · 23/07/2023 11:26

The place is filling up now. He’s reading a newspaper and I’m probably overthinking it

@LMNT absolutely

Why scream internally? Why not just speak externally and ask him to sit elsewhere? What does your silence gain?

It's not illegal to have feelings and act upon them.

If he’s literally on your table, tell him to move

if he isn’t then move

Why do you care what he thinks? He doesn’t care what you think*

practice being assertive woman

*unless he’s trying to pull, obviously

Props for being up and at M and S though, I am still on the sofa

BiddyBee · 23/07/2023 11:39

Guarantee he wouldn't have sat next to another man in an empty cafe. These men feel entitled to female attention.

I did once say "seriously?" without really thinking, when someone sat right in front of me in a half empty cinema. They moved.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 23/07/2023 11:51

When you say he's sat next to you, do you mean at the same table or next table over? Same table, weird as fuck, but if he's on another table what's the problem?

SideWonder · 23/07/2023 14:39

He could be lonely and wanted a chat with a pretty young woman.

Yes, typical male entitlement and feeling he has a right to your attention, but not creepy as such.

If he's got out a newspaper then he probably assessed you as someone who wasn't going to want to talk when he wants to read.

Our M&S café, before they enlarged it, used to always be so busy you ended up sharing. Depending on the mood I'd either choose someone who clearly was not going to want to chatter, or someone who had kids with them of a similar age to mine.
