Woken up with blurry vision in one eye

Just posting for traffic. I've just woken up in a panic as I thought I heard something. There was nothing to worry about but I noticed that I have blurry vision in one eye for long distance only. It's really freaked me out, and is not better 30 nins later. Am I just tired and it will be better in the morning, or do I need to panic?

Detached retina?

SeaToSki · 23/07/2023 00:42

Any other weird symptoms? Look in the mirror, is your face looking normal? Do both of your hands and legs work and feel the same, can you pronounce words out loud properly?
have you been ill recently ? Do you have any other medical conditions? Have you taken illegal drugs recently?

I can see this perfectly. It's far away things are not so clear. Could it just be dry, tired eyes??

I look fine and feel fine. Just very anxious now.

Any flashing lights or floaters in your eye?

Summerslimtime · 23/07/2023 00:47

No, it's fine.

Maybe just dry as I'm really tired??

Possibly an ocular migraine. The first time I had one it was like that- no headache or any other symptoms but blurred in one eye. Can come on due to changes in hormones or stress.

Get some sleep and see if it's different in the morning. If no change get to an optician to check your eye. Hope it improves for you.

Thanks. I'm so tired and stressed generally and really need to sleep, but this has freaked me out!

That's totally understandable! It's very scary when something happens with your vision so I do get it. The best thing you can do now though is get some sleep and hope it's improved in the morning. If you can listen to an audiobook or podcast to drop off that might help?

nocoolnamesleft · 23/07/2023 01:01

I wouldn't leave it until the morning, as it came on so suddenly. Migraine aura or occular migraine would usually affect both near and distance vision. Not worth taking chances with your sight.

Summerslimtime · 23/07/2023 01:06

Trying to be rational, I'm thinking the eye is very dry and tired. I have had aura migraines before and so far it's not that. The vision is not as sharp in one eye. I can read more with one eye closed than the other. Close up both are the same.

If you have absolutely no other symptoms, then its most likely a issue with the eye itself. I would suggest you go to a proper optician tomorrow /Monday and get an emergency check up (most do that). You want one that will check your eye pressure and can scan your retina.

And try and see if you can make adjustments to your life to get more rest. I know it can be really difficult to prioritize that, but it is really important

Summerslimtime · 23/07/2023 06:16

Thank you. I've woken up and it seems to be normal. Obviously I will check it out further this morning and ring the opticians if necessary. I absolutely do need to address the stress.
