Sad on holiday so please cheer me up

DH, DD4 and I are on our annual two week holiday in the US. We spend a few days in a relative’s apartment and then spend the rest of the time with family on the coast. First day of hols I got bitten on the hand by a spider and it was so painful, felt like my hand would fall off. Day before we were due to head to the beach I tested positive for Covid and have been self-isolating on my own in the apartment while everyone else has the time of their life on the coast. I’m poorly, lonely and have nothing to do other than watch American tv. I can’t leave the apartment until Tuesday and, even if if could, I’m too sick to leave. I miss my baby. I can’t let my DH know how upset I am because he already feels crap about leaving me behind but I insisted because I didn’t want them to miss out.

I’ve had a little cry on the phone to my mum which has helped but still down. So please cheer me up by telling me the nice things you have been up to today. I’m 5hrs behind UK time which means I have 3.5 more days of doing fuck all on my tod, maybe you will give me ideas.

Why are you isolating? You know covid has been downgraded by the world health organisation. Go and join in, wear a mask, but go and have done fun

Hannahsbananas · 22/07/2023 22:48

Isolating?? This is no longer a thing, op Confused

Puppyseahorse · 22/07/2023 22:49

Why did you take a covid test and why are you isolating?

are you isolating from your child?

CatMattress · 22/07/2023 22:52

Possibly she's just feeling v unwell?

Iknownothing · 22/07/2023 23:10

Could you turn your thinking round and treat it as intentional time on your own - binge watch that series you’ve always wanted to watch, read that book you’ve been meaning to read. Order takeout instead of cooking for yourself. Etc etc so that when you do meet back with family you are properly rested and recovered.

I’m isolating because it’s still a requirement where I am and I’m also unwell x

I took a test because I was unwell and some of the relatives we were staying with are clinically vulnerable. Our group was going to be circa 30 people and everyone tested first to protect the vulnerable ones.

Oh that's really crap op I am so sorry for you.

Have a look for box set recommendations and binge watch something good. I loved the Shield! It's pretty old now but you might be able to find it.

I'd be tempted to plan and order stuff for a project back home, so you have to research it and then find all the bits for it. Maybe a DIY thing or decorating or a playhouse for DS with all the things to go with it!! I don't know what you are into so maybe it's not those. Garden thing?

When I had covid and had to isolate I ordered all manner of crap from Amazon and slept a lot.

How are you getting food etc if everyone is away and you are isolating?

Ellienomates · 22/07/2023 23:30

@Iknownothing thank you for the ideas. I’ve been trying to since yesterday morning and the positives so far are:

  • I get to stay in a beautiful apartment - it’s a high rise on the river with gorgeous views.
  • I’ve watched a whole season of The Witcher. Discovered it on Netflix yesterday and omg Henry Cavill is a beautiful man.
  • Peace and quiet.

Food has been an issue as only have food in for sandwiches and ready meals but I’ve been too unwell to eat much. Starting to feel better so going to try and download a food delivery app and see if I can tempt myself to eat some nice food.

Try and sleep yourself well and it will pass the time - hope you feel better soon

midlifecrash · 22/07/2023 23:37

So sorry you feel crap OP. Today I cleared out a drawer which I found had moths in but then listened to a lot of music I hadn’t heard for a while, which cheered me up. Could you rediscover some music or are you headachey?

If your appetite is coming back could you make yourself something that nobody else in your family likes? When DP is away I always have baked potatoes, which he weirdly is not keen on.

Nagado · 22/07/2023 23:42

Ooh, get the food app on your phone and start thinking about all the lovely new places you can try once you’re feeling up to it. I’d also be on the websites of all those fabulous shops that don’t do international shipping.

sobeyondthehills · 23/07/2023 00:05

If I was you, I would find the CW channel, put on the episodes of whose line is it anyway and download Pokemon Go and play that.

That would entertain me for longer than 3 days
