Dh and I are off to London soon for a rare child free night. Trying to find a nice romantic restaurant nothing too mega expensive though. Ideally under £170 for both of us. Dh just really likes a nice steak! Any help would be great thanks! And nd central location!

The best steak I've had in London was at the two chop houses. Paternoster Chop House is near St Paul's and not the best view but amazing steak. Their other chop house at Butlers Wharf has nice views of Tower Bridge though.

My other favourite is either the Wolseley or the Delaunay and they're reasonably priced for your budget.

It depends what feels romantic for you! I don't need a tablecloth but I like low lighting and intimate corners.

Steak:
Butler's Wharf chop house is a good shout.
Blacklock has a nice atmosphere
Sophie's soho ditto
Meat People Islington - not been but good reviews and look reasonably priced.

Other ideas:
Brasserie Zedel is a classic.
Mon Plaisir in Covent Garden is a French bistro, charming rather than polished
The Swan at the Globe
OXO tower brasserie
Balthazar

Good suggestion, OXO brasserie is lovely and great views.

I like Balthazar's but feels a bit like being in a barber's shop.

Came here to say the Delaunay. Lovely lighting for a romantic evening and v reasonable prices given the quality and location.

We went to Close Maggiore last year for a pre theatre meal and loved it. Neither of us had steak so can't comment on whether they serve it but what we did have was lovely.

Clos*
Not "close"

Another vote for clos maggiore. Pre theatre menu is really reasonably priced. Beautiful setting and great location in Covent Garden.

Hawksmoor for steak

My recommendation will sound bonkers but bear with me… Zizzi near Sea Containers on the South Bank. It’s a very very standard chain restaurant. On the first floor, looking out over the Thames, a really nice view. The staff have always been amazing every time I’m there. And the other customers are always nice, it just has a nice vibe. And because you aren’t paying huge amounts it takes the pressure off it needing to be amazing. To me that would be more romantic for a rare night off from parenting than a fancy expensive place. But feel free to ignore if it’s not what you’re really after!!

@CrapBucket I've been lol! Ages ago , pre children stumbled upon it before getting a train home and loved it!

Also everyone some fantastic suggestions here! 😊
