Lovely weather for ducks but ds 10 driving me up the wall as wanted to go to the beach today. We've been for a swim and watched a DVD. (Staying In holiday cottage). Where else can we go near here?

Have you been to the castle and gardens ? We did the gardens in the rain, not ideal but we were only there a weekend. What about Barter bookshop, a long look round and buy a few books to read when you get back, I think they have a cafe, you could have a tea and cake to drag out the afternoon?

Agree, Barters, excellent cafe, excellent books!

Bailiffgate museum, swimming pool is lovely, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, go further afield to one of the many castles or Cragside. Waterproofs on... Walk in Hulne Park and go see the Abbey that was in Robin Hood.

The Treehouse and the wobbly bridges at Alnwick Gardens (free)

Cragside National Trust

Chillingham Castle

Bamburgh Castle

Echoing the recommendations for Barter Books but it will be rammed on a wet summer holiday Saturday. DD2(7) will follow the train for hours and then I set both DCs the challenge to find the most expensive book in the shop.
