Boring IKEA wardrobe question

Sadlysadsad · 22/07/2023 11:29

DD wants an ikea pax wardrobe (pic in next post) only we don’t have 175 Cms to get it into, I only have 130 cms.

Ive never had one of these and I’m a bit useless tbh, but can I get one customised? She needs the drawers in there, but I wondered if the shelving bit can be narrower? So she has that only smaller?

Do I buy door’s separately (she wants sliding doors)

I’ve had a look but I can’t work out how to make my own and we don’t have an ikea anywhere near us

@Sadlysadsad I've got pax and the sliding doors come as a pair and are quite large I think ,200 cm so she might have to go for normal doors . The units come in 50 and 100 cm widths the 1 in your pic looks like 2 at 50 and 1 at 100 combined.

KateyCuckoo · 22/07/2023 12:00

They come in different widths.

You need a 50cm one and a 75cm one. Then kit it out with the interior that you want.

RedToothBrush · 22/07/2023 12:05

You can do a combo on any of the options that come with pax. As previous poster says they come in 50, 75 or 100 wide options. So a 50 and a 75 would work best. There is an online 'build your own' tool on the IKEA website.

I'm quite short so I have a high shelf then rail below that. Then have a shelf with drawers at the bottom.

So technically I could get the wardrobe and drawers slightly bigger and then the box shelves on the end and just miss out that little tiny wardrobe that’s in there? That bit is the bit I think is the problem.
Basically I need a good amount of hanging space, the pull out drawers and the side box bits, as we can’t fit a chest of drawers in

Much to her disgust I think she needs a divan bed with pull out drawers, but she wants grey velvet type of stuff so I’m hoping a “modern” divan bed exists too

Sliding doors only come in 75 iirc? So she would need normal doors as you don’t have space for 2x 75. Also as pp say you really want a 50 and a 75 so the doors would be different sizes and so sliding won’t work anyway.

You could also look at Platsa which comes in different sizes from Pax but also has drawers rails etc.

SBAM · 22/07/2023 12:11

Previous posters have answered some of your questions, but I notice you said sliding doors - I don’t think you can put sliding doors on a frame with unequal sized halves - so if you get a 50cm and a 75cm to make it 125cm wide, you won’t get sliding doors on that.

Sadlysadsad · 22/07/2023 12:14

I will forget sliding doors then! Can I get a door for those with a mirror on it?

So I have just measured and I could get a 75cm wardrobe and then the 50cm shelving bit, which leaves a bit of space each side for the fact my measurements never work

Have you tried the Pax planning tool on the website?

Sadlysadsad · 22/07/2023 12:15

Would I be able to get the chests of drawers added into it too??

I tried but I can’t make sense of it, I don’t know if it doesn’t work well on my phone or if I’m just a bit shit, but it’s not going right at all

Yes, with pax you buy it all separately.
So, you’ll need to buy two frames, one 75cm wide and one 50cm wide. Then you buy the bits you want inside - shelves, drawers, hanging rails - for example the right hand side in your picture has 3 drawer kits and then a shelf to make that drawer section at the bottom.
Then you add doors. You can get mirrored doors.

JollyMollyPolly · 22/07/2023 12:24

You should be able to get a 50cm and a 75cm unit, forget the sliding doors they won't work. You could do 2x50cm doors and a 25cm mirror door. For bed storage I highly recommend an ottoman bed. I've changed all my beds to them, the extra storage space is brilliant.

Waterfallgirl · 22/07/2023 12:26

It’s not easy doing this type of thing on a phone do you or DD have a laptop?
if she wants Pax I’d also suggest she gets involved in the planning of it too and doesn’t just leave it to to you!

Sadlysadsad · 22/07/2023 12:34

So I’ve customised one kind of to this, which would probably work. She’s not huge on hanging stuff, but does like a drawer!!

I need to buy a small double, so will look at ottoman small doubles (if they exist!!)

It's a single but we have the ikea Hemnes "daybed" style as it has 3 drawers underneath , but still grown up bed, which had been so useful.

Pleasehelpmedress · 22/07/2023 12:38

I've got a pax and it's great. You need a wire drawer at the bottom to be most space efficient (I think you have that, due to the hinges the other drawers won't work). The hanging rail looks a bit high but you could put a shelf above it and store things you don't use much, that's what I've done.

If she's into jewellery they do pull out divider things she might like any you can get a glass shelf on top.

Farmageddon · 22/07/2023 12:40

I've had my PAX for a few years now and love them, I loved that I could mix and match whatever I needed. I have one of my 50cms doors as a full length mirror and it's really good.

We had them fitted by a carpenter though and bolted to the wall to make them secure, I wouldn't try putting them up myself. Some IKEA stores have a service where they can book a local carpenter for you to fit them if you are interested.

I don’t get what you mean? Do you mean once the doors are on none of the drawers will open? That’s me reading that wrong isn’t it?? 🤣

OP posts:
Imdrivinginmygetawaycar · 22/07/2023 12:46

We put them up ourselves. It wasn't too tricky with the instructions and it shows how you can affix to the wall. But yes there's always people locally who can put ikea together for a small fee,

We all have pax and I love that we can mix it up a bit when the children's ages change.

LexieLoos · 22/07/2023 13:03

The bed does exist!
We have a grey velvet with the big headboard and the lift up base, so there's loads of storage underneath.
Also highly recommend the online Pax designer

What she means is that because the door hinges are in the way, the normal drawers wont fit at the bottom, so you need to use a narrower wire drawer instead (just for the bottom one).

So if you see in the picture on this page, the bottom drawer is different than the rest.

This is my 125cm wide Pax - I've since changed the rails at the left for a combination of shelves, that's the great thing about it, if it's not working you can just buy different bits. The wider part has a 50cm plain door and a 25cm mirrored door.

Ohh I like your doors, especially the mirror bit!
