McDonalds worker?

ODFOx · 22/07/2023 00:21

I'm hoping that there's a McDonslds employee on here who can advise me please:
What swaps or extras are allowed please?
I know that bacon is an extra 80p.

What I'd like to do is swap ketchup and mustard for special sauce,
Or have the plastic cheese taken from my egg muffin and added to my daughters bacon roll instead.
Or add gherkins.
Are any of these things allowed and are they all chargeable? Thank you in advance.

Chargeable

Hawkins0001 · 22/07/2023 00:29

Most of these are changeable, when your inside ordering on the screen it enables you to alter the makeup of your burgers etc.

Not a McDonald's worker but I do have some personal experience.

Normally I get a Big Mac and request it without (plastic) cheese. I normally get extra Big Mac sauce to compensate. This doesn't cost anything extra. Sometimes, if I'm in the mood, I'll get extra tomatoes and that's also free! If I'm feeling particularly indulgent I get bacon added, but I think that's usually about 80p more.

I'm not sure about having the cheese removed from your meal and transferred to your daughter's, I would imagine there would possibly be a fee for that?

It's a minefield isn't it

ODFOx · 22/07/2023 10:22

It is a (first world) minefield 😀
We don't use it often tbf but occasionally if I'm dropping my DD early or picking up late we drive through at the 24 hour one.
She liked gherkins and special sauce but not ketchup or mustard. I dont like the cheese so if it could be added to her bacon roll and I could have ketchup on my muffin it would be better for both of us.
I don't want to double the cost though. I'm sure that there are rules but they aren't published anywhere.
We have asked for extra gherkin on her burger before and not been charged but I wasn't sure if that was a one-off.

Our local one doesn't allow any changes, they were surprised when I cancelled the whole order and just drove through
I hate warm ketchup

bookworm44 · 22/07/2023 10:28

I am veggie (not vegan!) & it really annoys me that i'm not allowed to have the regular plastic cheese on my McPlant burger. Only allowed to have vegan plastic cheese which i don't like. I'm eating it, why can't i have it the way i choose?!

LlynTegid · 22/07/2023 11:38

Are you sure OP you are not condoning bullying and sexual harassment by going to your local McDonalds?

liveforsummer · 22/07/2023 11:46

You can certainly add lettuce for free, used to be able to with cucumber but that's missing from the self serve screens now. I'm sure gherkins are free but I don't actually eat them so can't say for certain. On the self serve machine it tells you which ones are chewable and how much. The app might do the same. You wouldn't be able to swap cheese to a roll that didn't have it or swap free sauce for a chargeable one

FredaFox · 22/07/2023 12:11

If you are on the app you can change most items there is a list of things you can add which don't normally come with that item, you can also double things that do come with the item, eg I often do extra onions

What I doubt they will do is remove from one item and give to another, it's fast food not a cafe
The staff are too busy to mess round

Think most of it is chewable 😂😂😂😂

Anything main menu so 11 am onwards can't be put on breakfast. For many reasons..one being that most of the items aren't out or ready. Secondly is to do with allergens. Mcdonalds won't allow cross contamination between breakfast and lunch menu.

At the franchise where I work you can take anything off the item tour buying but if the till doesn't have the option to add something, say tomatoes we can't add it. The reason for it is because we can't account for it in cost.

I've worked there for 7 years.

sugaryouth1 · 22/07/2023 12:28

@bookworm44 I can actually answer this. 😂 the company that sells the patties to mcdonalds has a requirement that we can only sell the burger as a vegan product so we have to be very strict with it. Sorry

liveforsummer · 22/07/2023 12:34

Not sure how chargeable auto corrected to chewable 😆

It's also weird in that you can add tomato to a chicken mayo but not to a kc chicken sandwich for instance. I don't work there but dc like adding salad to their stuff 😆. The cucumber option seems to have vanished

Thank you for explaining the reasoning. It should be agreed it's a vegetarian option though!
