Matilda - chocolate box

You know how in the movie, miss honey says her dad had little box and she was allowed a chocolate out of it each night?
Does such a thing exist? Like a refillable box?

Moving house soon and I actually think the idea of having a special little box with some chocolate truffles and the likes in to have one after dinner with DP would be a (excuse the pun) sweet little tradition to start.

Surely you could just buy any lovely box, from TK Maxx or the likes, and refill it yourself with chocs of choice?

LaPerduta · 21/07/2023 15:01

Erm, just buy a box?

LMNT · 21/07/2023 15:04

I think any box would do. It sounds like a wonderful idea OP.

Ooo like the trinket boxes in TK Maxx? Hadn’t thought about them because I was envisaging some sort of food designed box but I suppose they would work!

It's a nice idea, especially with individually-selected chocolates from somewhere fancy. I think "wonderful" is over-egging it a bit, personally...

Saschka · 21/07/2023 15:12

I always assumed it was a series of boxes of chocolates that her dad replenished, rather than one box…

foulksmills · 21/07/2023 15:19

I know Roald Dahl employed a bit of magic here and there in his stories but I don't think 'magic refilling box of choccies' was in Matilda. There were 'neverending gobstoppers' in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory though. Although I think they were a work-in-progress.

I have a Heroes tub I always refill with all kinds of chocs inc treat size bars. Not a special box but a tub that can be refilled
Or you can get chocolate wardrobes and drawers full of treats from Hotel Chocolate that you can then refill

Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets · 21/07/2023 15:35

Not like they will have chance to go 'off' being in a box for a short while...
Imo!!

I thought OP meant refillable as in the Dad refilled it not that she thought it refilled itself by magic.

Surely it's still a treat if you just buy a nice box of chocolate and enjoy one. The box can always be refilled.

Personally I think one chocolate is stingy and couldn't be bothered with buying a box (that there is no guarantee all chocolates will fit in) just to reenact this. I'd much prefer to just treat myself to a nice luxury box every so often and get them out after dinner.

QuaversAndRedbull · 21/07/2023 15:41

Tk Maxx is a good suggestion. The one in the film is very similar to things I've seen in there.

My god there's some miserable people on here 🤣

OP I'd have a look at Etsy and the like to see what's available hand made. Someone who makes similar things might literally be able to make you a copy of the box from the movie. Maybe put a post on Facebook to see if any of your friends know someone with the right kind of skillset?

LakeTiticaca · 21/07/2023 15:51

Chocolates in a box at our house would last 10 minutes. That's why I only buy them at crimbo 🤣

Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets · 21/07/2023 15:52

Everlasting gobstoppers...
Wonder how much it would get a dc to stfu irl??

Jongleterre · 21/07/2023 16:14

Look on eBay for empty Fortnum & Mason boxes.

Love it! But would partner put chocolate in the fridge in the box too? LTB.

Crikeyalmightey · 21/07/2023 17:45

When Hotel Chocolat first started they would buy these fabulous big handmade chocolates from France, like 2 x the size of say, a Ferrero Rocher. The chocs in Matilda remind me of those. Sadly, no more 😒
