Gumtree rant - is this usual?

As with everything, you cannot get through to anyone to have a proper conversation - chatbots and crap everywhere. So I hope mumsnetters have some comments.

I've only ever sent messages on Gumtree twice. The first time there was no response to any of my messages and when I next looked the item had been noted "ad deleted" - I wasn't sure if the item had gone, or if it was as it said, just deleted. But the seller never replied to anything I sent.

Same thing happening again. I have sent three messages and this is so annoying as it is only five minutes away from my house. No reply to any of them. If the items is sold, bloody well reply to me and say so!

Is this usual? Because it is a pain in the bum.

I don't get all my notifications on there. I went on it and saw that I had a message asking to buy something from 3 weeks earlier. And I think people get fed up and delete items when buyers mess them around, they stop responding and don't turn up when an arrangement has been made.

Yeah, the app is awful for not sending messages or not notifying. You may also have just had bad luck with a couple of people. Generally I find it better than eg fbk mktplace

Is there any way of actually speaking to a real live flesh and blood person and not Gary BOTtomley as it has been called?

Not sure what you want Gumtree to do if a seller isn't replying though?

The app is shit, try logging in on the website for messages tbh.

If you message a seller about an item then you’re messaging a real person.
the reason why some might not reply is because they’ve probably been inundated with people also wanting to buy and it can get confusing and difficult to reply to everyone. If the ads deleted it’s because it’s been sold or taken off market.
I put something on for free yesterday and within 10 minutes I had 30 people messaging me asking questions. In the end I just allowed the friendliest person to have.

I am using the website, I don't have the app. I don't want Gumtree to hassle the seller, but I want to know if there is a problem with that seller or messaging. Gary the Chatbot can't tell me that.

I messaged about an hour after the ad went up. I then made an offer. If it's sold they should take it down, surely???

I don't think Gumtree ta very good selling website at all never had any luck with them all my ads have had plenty of photos included and a good description of the item I currently have an audio interface up for sale on it but I am just going to delete it and keep the device I don't really need the money it was just something I didn't really need so I thought I would try and sell it I think eBay is a far superior platform for selling items Gumtree is hopeless in my opinion
