Yorkshire Gold drinkers - have you found a satisfactory alternative?

It's getting so expensive and has microplastics in so want to find another tea - but every time we try something else we end up back on YG.

Have tried:

Clipper
Yorkshire
PG Tips
Typhoo
Aldi Gold
Sainsburys Gold
Waitrose Gold
Marks Gold
Marks Strong
Tetley
Twinings Everyday
All the red labels (Sainsburys, Co op, Tesco)

Has anyone moved to another tea that's OK? If it's plastic free that's a bonus

Thomson’s Irish breakfast is cheaper and very good I think.
used to get Dorset tea when had a Waitrose but that may be pricey now too?

Fuckingmentalme · 20/07/2023 16:23

Come on darling. We drink Yorkshire Gold because there is no alternative.

MargosMangos · 20/07/2023 16:25

Yes. I've found clippers is fine but does require a good 'mithering'.

Pinkbakerscap · 20/07/2023 16:29

The Irish one called Barry's tea is lovely. Hard to get but some big supermarkets have it.

Stumbleine · 20/07/2023 16:29

Having said that, I bought a new box of Yorkshire gold today and made up for it by buying own brand ketchup 😬

BarbaraofSeville · 20/07/2023 16:31

I don't know what price you're aiming for, but it's on a Nectar price of £5.50 for 160 bags in Sainsburys at the moment, that appears to be the current best price:

Lucienandjean · 20/07/2023 16:37

There is no alternative: only Yorkshire Gold will do. I've just economised elsewhere.

Piccalillii · 20/07/2023 16:37

That's so annoying, last week in store it was £7.50 for 160 - and I'm doing an Ocado shop this week as have a pass paid for and only need a few bits -I'll see if we can pop into a Sainsburys.

I tried Clipper, some of it's OK but it tastes a bit tea bagg-y if that makes sense? Which one do you drink? The English Breakfast?

I'll see if there's a Barrys - I have tried Dorset and didn't like it much

We get own brand everything else and often the basics too, it's just tea I can't do this with!

@AgathaSpencerGregson argh you don't need to quote the OPs opening thread ever but especially not when you are the first comment. It makes thread ridiculously long to scroll through and is a pet peeve on MN. We all know you are replying to the OP

Would you like to pop round and critique the tidiness of my cutlery drawer too?

You can quote whatever you want, no charge.

Vinvertebrate · 20/07/2023 16:45

Another vote for Barry’s. You can buy it on Amazon.

Actually somebody probably should. It’s a fucking mess.

Pineapplemonkey · 20/07/2023 16:52

No idea if this one's got micro plastics in but I prefer it to Yorkshire tea.
Wouldn't bother with Dorset tea though. Not even a close contender for Yorkshire tea and that pains me as a Dorset person

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 20/07/2023 16:53

I’ve tried them all, and I return to YG every time. No comparison!

😂😂😂😂

granstable · 20/07/2023 16:56

Miles Tea. I use the loose leaf West Country Original, but they do teabags.

Timeforabiscuit · 20/07/2023 16:57

I go for Barry's or Pujana, yes Yorkshire gold will always be my first love, but at least it's not tetley.

HarridanHarvestingHeldaBeans · 20/07/2023 16:59

Yorkshire Gold is available as loose leaf tea. That should be cheaper and you would still have the same taste.

Kryten1958 · 20/07/2023 18:06

I have found that the really popular teas like Yorkshire Tea have a lot of Asam in the blend giving it a nice malty taste.
I have cut out the middleman and only drink supermarket own brand Asam teabags.
I am hoping that this will give you a great cuppa, at an economical price.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/07/2023 18:12

Have you tried Glengettie? I'm not sure about the plastic situation as I prefer to use leaf tea, but it is a very tasty tea

minisoksmakehardwork · 20/07/2023 18:20

I highly recommend Cornish tea!

No microplastics and cost about 3p a teabag if you buy them in the big bags. Direct from them postage is £5.50 which is about the same price as buying them from Amazon.

If you live anywhere near Trago Mills at Truro, they sell those big bags even cheaper!

Totally agree-its much nicer.
