Yorkshire Gold drinkers - have you found a satisfactory alternative?

It's getting so expensive and has microplastics in so want to find another tea - but every time we try something else we end up back on YG.

Have tried:

Clipper
Yorkshire
PG Tips
Typhoo
Aldi Gold
Sainsburys Gold
Waitrose Gold
Marks Gold
Marks Strong
Tetley
Twinings Everyday
All the red labels (Sainsburys, Co op, Tesco)

Has anyone moved to another tea that's OK? If it's plastic free that's a bonus

No THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE except the normal Yorkshire tea. Especially if you live in Yorkshire

Come on darling. We drink Yorkshire Gold because there is no alternative.

👏👏👏

Rington’s Gold and Birchall’s Great Rift are both excellent.

Amen dear 🙏🙏

Waitrose is £7.10 for 180 but the 80 packs were on offer recently. (Less than 4p per cup so it’s not really pricey)

They also sell it as a loose leaf to negate the plastics.

I have found that the really popular teas like Yorkshire Tea have a lot of Asam in the blend giving it a nice malty taste.
I have cut out the middleman and only drink supermarket own brand Asam teabags.
I am hoping that this will give you a great cuppa, at an economical price.

Do you put milk in it?

I always buy Yorkshire gold when it's on offer in tesco. It's the only item I allow myself to stockpile!

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 20/07/2023 20:45

Have you, whisper, tried loose tea?

Brew tea company is my current fav (no plastic, just leaves)

Have you tried Glengettie? I'm not sure about the plastic situation as I prefer to use leaf tea, but it is a very tasty tea

Ooh I used to love Glenghetti tea! Twinings Strong English Breakfast is a favourite of mine, and Google suggests the tea bags are biodegradable but over how long I'm not sure. Also more expensive so I used to only have one in the morning.
OP could you use leaf tea to stop the plastics issue?
I hate hate hate clipper.

Piccalillii · 20/07/2023 21:36

Thank you, I do have loose leaf Yorkshire gold but doesn't quite taste the same. I mix it with breakfast loose leaf and it's good but I can't always use loose.

Interesting that I'm not the only one struggling though. There's definitely some new ones to try though

@AgathaSpencerGregson argh you don't need to quote the OPs opening thread ever but especially not when you are the first comment. It makes thread ridiculously long to scroll through and is a pet peeve on MN. We all know you are replying to the OP

Hear bloody hear!

Wenfy · 20/07/2023 21:38

Wagh Bakri is the only one that compares. But it’s a loose leaf tea so you need a strainer

SummerSazz · 20/07/2023 21:40

I moved from YG to normal Yorkshire and think I actually prefer it. Cheaper but doesn't solve the plastic issue....

Loveys · 20/07/2023 21:42

just tag the op if you must like this

@Piccalillii

Loveys · 20/07/2023 21:43

Oh fuck sake forgot the rest! Clipper like a pp said I like the organic one not because I'm a militant just because it's nicer 😀

Peridot1 · 20/07/2023 21:45

Ocado do Barry’s Tea. Im Irish and that’s my preferred tea so always add a box if I’m ordering fromOcado. Or bring it back from Dublin.

Allmyghosts · 20/07/2023 21:47

Have never tasted Yorkshire gold, is it that good? Just reminds me of Homeland haha.

mantlepiece · 20/07/2023 21:47

Another vote for Ringtons Gold.
It is on the pricey side though as well.

motherofawhirlwind · 20/07/2023 21:50

Yorkshire Tea Gold, 80 Tea Bags (Pack of 5, total 400 Teabags) amzn.eu/d/hTpl2vM

Seems like good value?

AgnesX · 20/07/2023 22:08

Nambarri? Sorry I don't have a link

CCSS15 · 20/07/2023 22:19

I was just going to post the amazon link too - if you have max s&s it's 12.71 for 400 bags

Yes. I was having the exact same dilemma OP! Moved to Barry’s ( red box, from Ocado) or M&S Assam. Good luck!

Could you use tea leaves and do a brew in a teapot
