To spend the money or not

Kinda light hearted

i have some cash put aside for a birthday present that Iv been saving, my friend is buying this present for me off of someone they know and I will be giving them the money once they have it (very niche gift)

my friend doesn’t know when they will have it but will be in the next two weeks at some point - they will need the money asap once they gave have paid for it.

I have been invited out this weekend to something I really want to go to but would need to dip in to this savings to be able to afford it…should I risk it and hope my friend doesn’t come in to the item before I get paid on Wednesday next week and can replace my savings or do I hold off this weekend incase my friend springs the present on me and I need to pay her?

I have tried to her a timeline but it’s impossible just be in the next ‘week or so’

Ask your friend if she would be ok with getting the money in two parts? She might be able to cover the difference for a few days.

I wouldn't spend the money. Can you put your event on a credit card and pay it from your wages instead?

As the person who invited you if they will pay for your share of the weekend until you get paid on Wednesday?

I wouldn't use the money for your friend - it sounds like they are doing you a favour and the least you can do is uphold your side of the bargain i.e. pay them back immediately. Actually I'm not sure why they didn't ask for the money in advance?

@redskytwonight this is my dilemma, I really don’t want to not have the cash to give them for this reason. I would have to forego my plans I think
