EBay payment waiting times

Due to cost of living am having a clear out and selling some items. Sold a couple of things on Vinted only to discover payment isn't released to seller until after the person has notified they have received the item so could be several days from actual purchase. Looking for more instant access to money and wondering if eBay will also hold money or if the payments to sellers is instant. Have a fairly high value item to sell but don't want the cash hanging around in cyber space when I could really do with it now like my Vinted money is 😖

Ebay quicker, tends to pay once item is marked as dispatched with tracking no.
Only delay is if it's a high value item and needs to go through authentication, in which case payout is on hold until that process has completed.

Oh god I'll just leave it then and stick to marketplace for this particular item and if it were to sell on a Friday night then Monday being the soonest to receive money isn't ideal either.

eBay will sometimes hold your money. I think when I was a brand new seller this happened. I've also read if you get a complaint from a buyer then this can happen with your next sales. Friends like to use Facebook Marketplace, as they can just get cash in hand on the spot. I've never used it, because I don't want to meet people.

EBay is far quicker than Vinted. I always get the payment the day after the auction ends.

I've not actually sold anything on marketplace that was bought by someone locally. I've posted it all used tracked postage and the people have paid via PayPal

@liveforsummer That's helpful to know! Will consider it an option now :)

Ebay always makes me wait 30 days because I hardly ever sell in there e.g. it's been more than a year now.

Amby1 · 20/07/2023 15:07

Despite having an ebay account for 14 years and 100% positive reviews, ebay always hold my money for 30 days. I think it's because I sell very rarely, but it has entirely put me off ever using them again now that there are so many other options.

liveforsummer · 20/07/2023 21:14

After the last 2 posts I'm so glad I asked. I don't even remember the last time I sold on ebay. Maybe I haven't at all with this particular account so I imagine they'd hold it for max time

Yep eBay hold the money for new sellers and will also take a percentage of the money you make.
Marketplace would be your best bet.
