Can a three year old have crisps?

Pleasemrstweedie · 20/07/2023 09:02

Just that.

I'm planning a sandwiches and crisps lunch on Saturday, which will include a three year old.

Is it OK just yo buy a big bag of crisps and share them out?

For complicated reasons, I can't ask his parents, so looking for a general view.

Thanks

My child that age loved quavers.

Pom Bears or supermarket own brand equivalent (eg Aldi Teddy Faces) - you can't go wrong! If you're in Ireland, Tayto Snax are your friend!

You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your DH's family! Say no more.

Maybe your DH can ask them if there's anything their kid can't eat or that they'd prefer wasn't offered.

I really wouldn't worry about crisps though. I wouldn't get any kiddie crisps as that's sort of saying the child should eat them rather than the normal ones.

I would also provide some carrot and cucumber sticks, and cherry tomatoes.

Personally I would just provide whatever crisps you wanted to.

Bright orange highly flavoured stuff is attractive to 3 year olds and I never bought it. A Few plain crisps aren’t as eye catching, have fewer additives and as a pp said, no orange finger prints anywhere.

If a toddler has crisps on offer they are very unlikely to be choosing cherry tomatoes instead!

Of course, that's the solution. Your DH can greet his relatives with a bowlful 'Pom Bear, anyone?'

Yes absolutely. I mean my 1 year old scoffs his face with crisps so a 3 year old is definitely going to be fine.

Feel the veggies in this context would be purely decorative! The number of times the word ‘crisps’ has been used in this thread I think every toddler in the world is probably on their way! Crisps are like crack for toddlers! Get yourself some pombears in and all will be well. (Probably get extra though as those things are too moreish!)

Jongleterre · 20/07/2023 10:43

Are they vegetarian or vegan as some
Crisps may not be suitable.

I also find it bizarre that you can't ask the perfectly ordinary question of whether their child likes or can have crisps or not.

SharonEllis · 20/07/2023 10:46

Personally didn't let my kids have crisps much at that age but wouldn't say no as a special treat at someobe else's house or at a party. Kids need to learn that other adults/families do things differently and parents have to understand they will ways need to negotiate it. If people have strct dietary requitements its equally up to them to let the host know.

Catspyjamas17 · 20/07/2023 10:47

Pom Bears FTW.

Pom bears
Monster munch
Quavers
Wotsits
Skips

SnarfleThree · 20/07/2023 11:49

Pombear for life 🥰

wendyjoy · 20/07/2023 12:59

Pombears.. most kids love them.

Isthisasgoodasitis · 20/07/2023 14:47

My child has never eaten crisps she has oral aversion and finds their texture offensive she does however eat cucumbers and raw carrots

ClinkyWotsit · 20/07/2023 15:09

18 three-ish year olds at DD’s party over the weekend will confirm that a lot of 3 year olds and a number of 2 year olds will happily chomp their way through the obligatory Pombears as their parents watch cheerily on.

Enough said!

Kelljo83 · 20/07/2023 17:48

My son didn't eat crisps until he was 8! Not because I didn't let him, he was scared.... of crisps!! Ffs lol

Underestimated4 · 20/07/2023 21:48

A lot of baby and toddler snacks in shops are essentially crisps or ‘veg sticks’ as they like to say.

BabyStopCryin · 21/07/2023 08:04

The Real Eat ones are quite nice (a bit greasy though). I quite like vegetable crisps (but again they can be quite greasy and salty). But you can’t really build all the food around a three year old!

IndysMamaRex · 21/07/2023 10:03

Yeah it’s fine. Maybe get some of the kids “healthy” ones as a back up. Or some carrot sticks & hummus?

Pleasemrstweedie · 21/07/2023 12:19

After all that, there is a God. DH has accepted that these visitors are his responsibility and will be making his signature pasta bake crosses self

I'd get something like Quavers, Skips or Wotsits rather than normal crisps for the child.

Plain ready salted are much healthier.

Mine does and will eat both.

She would start with the cherry tomatoes as she loves them and would eat them over the crisps.

However if you offered her crisps vs carrot and cucumber sticks, she would eat the crisps.

(At one point she wanted bananas over chocolate. Now she can't eat milk chocolate it is the same.)
