Rock n roll and blues-rock from the 1950s and 1960s

Tonight I've been listening to a few old records in these genres and it struck me how significant and influential many of them are. Artists and groups like Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke and Little Richard were all trailblazers in their native USA and the trails were duly picked up by British acts such as The Animals, Johnny Kidd, The Beatles, The Hollies and Rolling Stones. Some of my favourite songs of theirs are:

Johnny B. Goode
Be Bop a Lula
Peggy Sue
Bring It On Home
Long Tall Sally

Not forgetting Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley and His Comets, the song that arguably started the whole business.

Then there was Elvis Presley, of course.

I'm not sure what point I'm making here. Just saying!

Paul McCartney is known to have said that without Buddy Holly, there would have been no Beatles.

Have a listen to Eddie Cochran.

Moving slightly forward of rock n roll, 60s n 70s obscure Black labels in America were failures but huge in the UK and records swap hands for big bucks on the nsoul scene.

I love all this music. Also The Everley Brothers who influenced the harmonies of the Beatles and others.
