Free school dinner vouchers

My kids have free school dinner. So in the school holidays we get super market vouchers issued by the school. My child's school were giving them Mon-tues, 8am-3pm then today until 1.30. Even though school finishes at 3pm today. have had a hell of alot on my mind. I mean pretty deep stuff which the school know about. Life has been proper shit . I live 45 mins from the school by bus. I don't drive . Anyway. I realised today was the last day to get the vouchers and had to be collected by 1.30. There was no way i would make it to the school. So I rang explained the above. And they said no that its at 1.30 or I can't get them.

In the end my social worker sorted it out so i was ok. But there are familys really struggling out there . And may be having a hard time. But Do not have a professional to help like I did.

I'm not sure what could be done? It's amazing this scheme exists now (when DS was young I was a single mother on benefits and we didn't get school holiday provision).

I guess the way the school distributes them is up to them? Do some schools post them? I suppose as it's the holidays, then schools won't have the staff available to administrate the scheme.

It's lucky your social worker managed to sort it for you, as for others - well I guess they go to the school to drop/collect their children, so they would have had to get them there, or go without (assuming a primary school). If not, I guess they'll miss out.

Sorry that things are tough for you, I remember being a single parent going through a tough time (ex sexually assaulted me and tried to kill me and DS), so I know how lonely you can feel, at least you have professional help, so I hope that is helping you.

Incidentally there are several places that are giving out free meals for children during the holidays and it's not means-tested like the FSM vouchers are.

Hope things improve soon and you have a lovely summer with your DC.

Some schools do it via email.

I get what your saying. But theses vouchers are for families who may struggle without them. And some may be vulnerable. Their cut of was 1.30pm even though school finishes at 3pm.

And yes definitely better than a while back. It will be helping alot of families . It makes s massive difference.

I'm so sorry for what you have Been through it sounds awful. I hope things are better for you now

Do those who get them by email not have to print them? I’m not sure how it works sorry but printing would be much more hassle than collecting them

Where I live they send a code to your phone and you redeem it that way, screenshot it and keep on your phone and scan in supermarket

You don't need a printer . It much easier via email. It let's you choose the supermarket that's more suited to what works for you.and there no restrictions for collection etc
