What vitamins do you take?

Just wondering if I'm missing something as I feel rubbish most days even though I'm taking a few vitamins. I'm always tired, even if I've had 9/10 hours sleep and need to nap most days. I've had bloods done about 9 months ago and am on B12 and folic acid since then but it's not getting any better.

At the minute I'm taking Centrum advance, Magnesium, sea kelp and biotin for hair, and folic acid. Is there anything else you'd recommend? Particularly for tiredness and hair loss (lost a lot after pregnancy and it's grown back really thin).

Women's multivitamin, evening primrose oil and the one that has made the most difference is myo-inisotol, but I have PCOS . If I run out and don't take it for a week as happened recently, I feel noticeably more tired

What was your ferritin when you had blood tests? (re tiredness and hair loss)

Vit D recommended by NHS for everyone in autumn/winter.

GardeningIdiot · 19/07/2023 18:37

Plus have you had your B13 and folic rechecked?

Calcium - I take Osteocare which also has Vit D, magnesium and Zinc.

A separate Magnesium for restless legs.

Thinking about starting collagen tablets.

minipie · 19/07/2023 19:08

Did you have thyroid checked?

Must admit I don’t take anything. In theory I take iron supplements and Vit D but keep forgetting. Watching for ideas. Myo inositol is interesting, I also have PCOS, I think I even have a bottle of it somewhere so will dig it out!

GreenEyedGiant · 19/07/2023 19:37

I think I probably would be best to ask to have my bloods redone to see what I really need. I just can't cope with how tired I am!

They didn't say! Just sent out a prescription with folic acid and told to come get b12 injections every 12 weeks.

Well you can ask reception for a print out of your latest bloods or register with and look on the NHS app. The NHS minimum ferritin is unhelpfully low. Aim for over 70 for hair and fatigue to improve.

I take the better you multi vitamin spray in the morning and k2 in the evening as I was getting lots of bruises and craving blue cheese . I tried magnesium glyconate too but it gave me headaches.

I am also on hrt. I think diet though has made the biggest difference and I have a lot more energy since cutting upf. I also do strength training which seems to help with anxiety/mood.

CalistoNoSolo · 19/07/2023 19:55

How do you get time for 9-10hrs sleep plus naps in a day?? Maybe you're sleeping too much, what's your exercise routine? In answer to your op though, I take vit D and a multivit with iron on top of a good diet and lots of water.

Wintersgirl · 19/07/2023 19:55

Sanatogen multivitamin
Starflower oil 1000mg a day

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 19/07/2023 19:57

Calcium and vit D, because I have a dairy allergy.
Ultimately you need a decent diet.

Delatron · 19/07/2023 20:21

I would ask to get Thyroid checked too. Also NHS levels are really low as to what is ‘acceptable’.

Everyone should take vitamin D (plus k) from Oct-April and longer if you’re not in the sun in summer.

I take:
Lumity Day and Night. They are expensive but I haven’t been ill since I started taking them in Jan and I’m self employed so they are worth it to not miss work.
Vitamin D
Magnesuim Glycinate to help with sleep
Ashwahanga for Peri menopause anxiety.
Schisandra for energy.
I basically rattle but it works for me.

Obviously diet is hugely important too and gut health.
