If I didn't have a family to feed...

I think I could happily survive on a G&T and some peanuts for dinner most nights. Could be just end of term knackeredness, I suppose!

I will motivate myself to get up and cook something any minute now. Aaaaany minute....

I got in late after a drinks thing last night (2 small glasses of wine sipped over 2.5 hours...). Poured myself 1 decent glass of wine, mixed a Marie Rose sauce (mayonnaise, ketchup, paprika flakes and lime juice) and poured over prawns in a halved avocado. Desert was a packet of crisps.

Possibly considered neighbourhood of cooking as I made the sauce and halved the avocado. But it took about 2 minutes and it was all for me AND to my taste (lots of lime and less spice compared to family version).

The thing is I like eating a proper dinner but I don't like it so much that it's worth the effort and the cleaning up afterwards. Hence why if it was just me, I'd happily live off hummus and pitta bread.

Ylvamoon · 20/07/2023 09:29

I don't mind cooking- but I hate cooking every day for 3 other people.

My dinners would be all different types of salad & bread and on can't be arsed days it's cheese & crackers with the odd tomatoes thrown in for good measure 😆

I've never known anyone stoop quite so low as DH, mind. He's been known to eat white sliced bread straight out of the packet when feeling hungry and lazy.

Definitely been that low 💁🏻‍♀️

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/07/2023 10:38

I ate 2 pieces of sliced white bread from the packet yesterday!

Id just have toast l think. Or M and S ready meals.

Popetthetreehugger · 20/07/2023 10:50

DH has been in hospital since Monday ( all good , just had text to say he’s out ) yesterday, while waiting to ( not ) pick him up I had a magnum for lunch then a bowl of raspberries and cream for tea . I did start with a normal size portion… but thought who am I kidding ? So just pored whole punnet in to big bowl and watched that fantastic series limitless… totally recommend.

I’d have just poured the cream
into the punnet!

This thread gives me such hope and inspiration.

You've not thought it through...there's holes in the bottom of the punnet so the cream would pour out. Much better to put all the raspberries in the pot of cream 😉

I live alone now and it's so nice to eat when and what I feel like
I tend to live on rolls, Granola, yogurt fruit and salads( plus chocolate!)
It's just not worth standing and cooking for me, even if I batch cooked and froze it

murasaki · 20/07/2023 13:47

Pate on toast, wine.

Fishfinger sandwich with mayo.

Both food of the gods when feeling lazy.

Deathraystare · 20/07/2023 19:47

Loving the love for Marmite on toast!

I am lucky that I am on my own so if I feel like marmite on toast is a reasonable dinner I have that!!!

BrassicaBabe · 20/07/2023 21:10

My people!

My hated of evening meals kicks in about 7am.

Tonight the kids have had Beige. DH has had left overs. I've had a bottle of wine and hula hoops 🥰

BrassicaBabe · 20/07/2023 21:11

Oh. I've got very naice hummus in the fridge. Can't even be bothered to find something to go with that 🙄

Peachee · 18/09/2023 12:51

Doritos and red pepper houmous dip for me. And a family share bag of malteasers for pudding.

Had to be thick white bread and real butter (preferable Presidents) - neither of which we normally have sadly 😭

I need to revisit this thread for ideas as I will be solo most nights from about 7 weeks time...

RosieMilkJug · 18/09/2023 19:01

If I didn’t have a family to feed I would be 8 stone.

ssd · 18/09/2023 19:44

When i didn't have a family to feed i was a size 8/10.
And i ate pakora out the bin once...last nights pakora.

smilyfairy · 18/09/2023 19:53

My kids left home a couple of years ago , I'm a single parent .I love having what I like for meals . I had garlic bread tonight that's it ,no additions . I'll often have cheese and crackers .After 20 odd years making meals for others it's great 😊

MorrisZapp · 18/09/2023 20:04

I eat what I personally fancy, every night of my life. So does DP. We take turns cooking for DS.

MrInbetween · 18/09/2023 20:12

When I met my DH he would make these elaborate meals by himself every night.

He was horrified at my evening ‘meals’:

Wheetabix
Tinned sweetcorn and cottage cheese (bowl optional)
Toast - with a variety of toppings just to jazz things up

God I miss those days. I’ve now got a mixture of diets and food allergies and some nights I cook three different meals for one family.

And I’m a stone heavier than on the crap diet above.

Same. Me & DH cook what we want for ourselves every night. Even if that's a bowl of crisps and wine. We also take turns cooking for DC.

Doodar · 18/09/2023 22:41

A whole head of celery dipped into a tub of taramasalata, cornichons on the side.

OhamIreally · 19/09/2023 11:41

Beware however. My DD was away for three weeks with her dad so I did this. Ate scraps and restaurant meals with friends. Some evenings just wine and crisps.

By the time she returned I had a mouth full of ulcers and a cold sore. Back to home cooking and all fine again Smile

CurlewKate · 19/09/2023 11:45

I'd live on spicy peanut noodles and oranges.
