If I didn't have a family to feed...

I think I could happily survive on a G&T and some peanuts for dinner most nights. Could be just end of term knackeredness, I suppose!

I will motivate myself to get up and cook something any minute now. Aaaaany minute....

I've never known anyone stoop quite so low as DH, mind. He's been known to eat white sliced bread straight out of the packet when feeling hungry and lazy.

I used to eat weetabix for dinner and was so slim. Sigh.

Onceuponatime56 · 19/07/2023 19:38

I’d live on beans on toast and whole nut chocolate

ThisIsACoolUserName · 19/07/2023 19:47

Haha these fantasy meal plans! You'd all end up very grey if you ate like this for real!

I have done that too I'm ashamed to admit, although it was in my addiction to Heinz salad cream phase, so I would grab some bread and dollop it on, none of this mayo stuff, had to be Heinz salad cream, i would sometimes get so carried away and put too much in and as I crammed the bread in would drop splodges of it on the floor in my hurry to satisfy my craving for the stuff.

namechange998 · 19/07/2023 19:50

I would have granola with chopped up fruit and vanilla yoghurt for every meal if I had a choice. My kids are getting older and quite often it just me and DP, those nights we have something on toast

TheChosenTwo · 19/07/2023 19:54

Bloody hell @Jenasaurus - budge up in the caravan next time, I promise I won’t annoy you by talking too much, I am tidy and although I suspect I snore I will make up for it by bringing enough snacks and booze for the both of us!!

maddiemookins16mum · 19/07/2023 19:54

I’d live on

Tea
bread
butter
cake.

In fact my lovely mum in her final months basically just ate this. She went off food altogether but would eat a slice of bread and butter and a piece of cake 4 times a day. The doctor said it was fine, she was eating.

LMNT · 19/07/2023 20:05

I’d live on Mestemacher protein bread, boiled eggs and cheese with walnuts.

With copious amounts of Barry’s tea.

BiddyPop · 19/07/2023 20:17

Welsh rarebit and some part baked rolls chucked in the oven while I open white wine is a balanced diet - carbs in bread, protein and fats in cheese, fruit in wine.

I also like hummus, breadsticks, and a slice of lime in my G&T as an alternate balanced option.

bugaboo218 · 19/07/2023 20:25

Yes to this!

if I didn't have three children and a husband to feed .

I would eat different things on toast each night followed by a bowl of fresh fruit cut up with Greek yoghurt and honey!

Later on I would scoff peanuts with lovely glass of wine or chilled sparkling water.

spicy chick peas on sourdough is my favourite savoury toast topping at the moment. My favourite sweet one is crunchy peanut butter, banana and cinnamon!

This is basically a pensioners fantasy meal planning thread. I hope it is open in 20 years so I can look back when the kids have fled the nest and we can just eat whatever the hell we want. Lasagna for breakfast, babybell with olives for lunch, wine and a crisp sandwich for dinner. Bliss. Something to look forward to.

It is only weird if he left the crusts on instead of ripping out the white dough and making a ball out of it and then eating it. So so good.

I'm so having wine and crisp sandwiches for dinner when I'm a pensioner. It's like the 21st century of the "I shall wear purple" poem.

"When I am an old woman,
And drink gin and tonic
And squash crisps into bread
And say we've no money for veg."

Damn it, I missed a line:

The kids sorted themselves out. I had a bag of salt of vinegar crisps and some honey roasted cashews. I would happily live on toast and biscuits.

StillMedusa · 19/07/2023 21:23

I am home alone tonight so had a curry Pot Noodle GrinIt's my 'dirty treat' go to.(I did have a nice healthy chopped salad with every colour salad in it for lunch to balance it)
Other nights it's cheese and marmite on toast, or a jacket spud with cheese and coleslaw, or spinach.

I have absoutely zero interest in cooking for myself!

whatapity · 19/07/2023 21:43

Tomato soup (a whole tin of course) and white bread
cheese toastie with sriracha
egg something or other

Shurleyknot · 19/07/2023 22:09

Freshly popped popcorn with minstrels thrown in to melt into it.

Me tooooooo. Sometimes I dunk it in butter if I'm energetic . Like literally scrape the butter onto it with no equipment m

bamboonights · 19/07/2023 23:04

Breakfast-Freshly baked sliced wholemeal toast with salted butter if can't be arsed
Avocado and salt for variation. Dont have to make anyone else a cup of tea.

My 'party for one' dinners.

Wrap with brie, pear and walnuts + a side of crisps and peanuts.

Egg mayo sandwich on fresh wholemeal bread with cress, or spinach leaves + a side of crisps to insert

Wrap with feta, spinach, peanuts + side
of crisps

All accompanied with a glass of chilled rosé or white wine. An extra treat is if I've remembered to rinse the glass with water then pop the glass into the freezer before pouring. Ices the sides and the wine is divine.

Dog by my side, bliss.

But...but...that's cooking!! Or at least in the anaemia neighbourhood as cooking. I fear you are missing the point.

Turnleftturnright · 19/07/2023 19:08

I probably only eat a hand full of cooked meals a year. I always cook for everyone else (different meals for health reasons). I definitely can't be bothered to cook for myself.

It's good to see I'm not the only one.

@Turnleftturnright what do you eat then, if you only have a handful of cooked meals a year ?

treacledan71 · 20/07/2023 08:24

Lol we were talking about this at work but more how cheap you could get your shopping to be if just had to get your own. Jacket potatoes was a cheap one , beans on toast and soup.
