Breast Pain

18 months ago I realised I had a lump in my left breast. Doctors referred me to breast clinic.

My breast was scanned (ultrasound) and I was told I had a 4cm fibroadenoma and was sent on my way. No mammogram or biopsy or anything. They said it was benign. Not sure how they knew that without any other investigation.

I went to the docs again about 6 months later as I was getting some pain/dull ache in my breast. I was told it was hormonal and related to my period. I've never had sore breasts when I'm on my period. I've been very lucky that I barely get any symptoms. But whatever i carried on with life.
Over the last few months the pain and aches are getting worse and more often. I can't actually work put where the pain is though. Its "inside" the breast and when I press on, there isn't a part that makes it worse if that makes sense.

Sometimes my nipple hurts too.

The pain isn't severe but I'm aware of it and my breast "feels" heavy.

Looking at my breast, it appears normal. No discharge. No puckering of the skin.

Should I go back to my doctors and demand another referral?

I'm 36 (well, I will be in a few days anyway)

Go back to your GP. I'm not sure that demanding another referral would be helpful in the first instance; maybe just ask.

Yes absolutely go back. They can tell by ultrasound if something is benign or not. Had there been concerns, they would have done a biopsy. I've had loads of fibroadenoma and I have also had breast cancer. However, there has been a change on symptoms so I would ask to be referred back to the breast clinic.

I have a fibroadenoma. I take evening primrose oil for my breast pain.

I think it depends if the pain is concentrated in one breast. I had painful boobs from early teens but when I had cancer, only one boob hurt although it was continuous pain with no let up.

At the doctors now. Appointment at 9am but my doctor is running 14 mins late so far. They only opened at 8.30!

How did you get on? I have had breast pain for last 3 weeks. Just been referred to breast clinic.

Update

Any update op?

This is an old thread but it's been bumped so I'll say it again, as I've said before. Anything that is different/unusual for you needs checking. Pain that continues outside of your cycle needs checking (for me it was continuous nagging low level pain in my nipple). Anything at all that has made you worry about your boobs needs checking. I hope OP is doing ok. I'm a breast cancer survivor. Just get it checked!

Pain has recently been added to symptoms. If things have changed go back to your GP. Better to be cautious.
