What's Rotherham like to live in?

We are looking to buy and Rotherham is significantly cheaper than Sheffield and is geographically close, with decent transport links.

I'm aware it's smaller and the town centre is a bit limited but is it worth savings 1000's on pounds and getting somewhere bigger than a one bed flat for the two of us?

im the rotherham/barnsley end myself.
its a lot better now theres the tram from parkgate to sheffield if you have to commute using public transport.
feel free to pm me as im happy to tell you more about areas this way, and schools, doctors to look at or avoid etc

Thank you. I have no idea exactly where in Rotherham as we are from elsewhere in the country. We regularly go to Sheffield and the more time we have spent there the more we want to live there. Rotherham seems ideal because of the transport links to Sheffield, but it needs to be walkable to public transport as DH doesn't drive, so that's an influence.

I'd like somewhere that has a decent local pub, somewhere nice to go for a coffee and that doesn't have high crime rates, and is a safe place to live. We live in the suburbs of our current town but are near to transport links, a big shopping centre etc etc so have the best of both worlds.
