Benefits of letter to head

I have read a few threads on here suggesting a letter to the head .

My Ds’s teacher has gone above and beyond . I have already sent a card to teacher thanking her .

I would happily email head to but how does that benefit teacher ? I have never spoken to head so feels a bit odd , however teacher is definitely worth the recognition of all they have done

It means the head has the information to be able to make a good decision when it comes to the next performance appraisal, same as if you give any manager a compliment about their staff. Teachers are on performance related pay so it really can help.

This. As a former head teacher this kind of thing is invaluable. It provides evidence of good relationships and student progress etc.

Please send it

It is AMAZING to do this - it will make a big difference, I promise :-)

In reality the head probably has little clue exactly what goes on day to day in the classroom, and letting him/her know what a big difference your child’s teacher is making will be reassuring to the head and any congratulations to the teacher will be warmly received.

Any decent Head will have a very good idea of what's going on in the classroom. However, receiving a complementary email about staff is always lovely and they will hopefully complement the member of staff about its receipt

There are over 100 teachers at my school. My head has been into my class a handful of times. I know he trusts me (and all his staff) but don’t flatter myself that he knows what’s going on in all my classes all the time!

I kind of feel the challenges my DS has presented this year will have made it to the head, I have had a fair few conversations with HOY along with tutor however I don't think they would necessarily know how much of a difference she has made.

It would be lovely to share those thoughts.

I have worked really hard this year with my year 10 - at the beginning of the year I really doubted I would ever get them through a Speaking Presentation. Today I watched my last one and also managed to pick up observing another difficult student for one of my colleagues as the girls did it together. I am proud of myself, but, yes it would be nice if the extra work and care I have put it was communicated to my managers.

Secondary school teachers don’t get the regular communication with parents that primary teachers do, and we teach hundreds and hundreds of students. To know the difference we are trying to make is appreciated makes our year!
