Any advice on chameleons?

My almost 17 year old wants one. I don't but he's launching quite the campaign to get me to change my mind

He will buy it and pay for everything etc etc and clean it out. I do believe this but I'm just not keen on a reptile in the house. He does have experience of reptiles as he's had a snake (kept at his dad's) for the past decade

We have a triple garage. Can it be kept in there? Any tips? I'm leaning towards a 'no' but don't want to be unreasonable if there's a way to work it so it's not in my house! He says he'll keep it in his bedroom or his study but ugh - not sure about that either!

No, it can’t be kept in the garage, it needs to be in a moist warm environment and monitored regularly.
DD has a gecko, Chameleons are a bit more fragile
Your son should know all this and you need to be able and willing to care for it if he’s not around too

Chameleons are high maintenance. You can’t keep it in a garage. Not only would the environment be unsuitable, I’d expect a 17yo to easily forget about it once the novelty’s worn off. I’d pick a lizard that doesn’t drop dead at the slightest mistake, keep it in an area in the house where you can keep an eye on it, and educate yourself on its care so you can tell he’s looking after it properly
