Pet Hates On The Road?

So many people seem to drive like morons! Speeding, not indicating, not thanking you for waiting ( I always mouth “ You’re Welcome”!), going across roundabouts or on the wrong side etc etc. What gets to you the most?

OP posts:
GoodChat · 18/07/2023 15:51

The idiots who drive right up your arse on a dual carriageway when the right hand lane is free. Just overtake me!

AgnesX · 18/07/2023 15:55

People that just waft along completely oblivious to what's around them. Usually their lane control is appalling, that's when they're not middle lane hogging. The same ones who think indicators are optional.

Podcats · 18/07/2023 15:57

People who can't or won't drive the speed the road allows. There's a road near me that is a 60 into a 30. People who can't drive properly drive 40 the whole time they're on the road.

Emmarjayne · 18/07/2023 21:36

People who pull out Infront of you and then proceed to do under the spread limit, when there was space behind you they could have pulled into.

People who brake at every speed bump and turning.

People who expect a thankyou and start mouthing words at you for not saying thankyou to them for following the law. If it's noones right of way and someone lets me go then I will thank them but I will not thank someone for having to stop because it's my right of way. They don't stop out of politeness they stop because it's the law and If they didn't they would crash into me and or would be there fault.

People who brake then indicate.

The list is endless, some days the bus would be less stressful 😂

sooverthisshit · 18/07/2023 21:37

When people accidentally leave their indicators on and it’s just flashing flashing flashing and it’s so distracting.

Yup - and then they get to the 30mph village and continue to drive at 40. Twats.

tailgaitors are the worst though. So dangerous. Clearly have too low an IQ to drive safely as they don’t understand the most very basic laws of physics.

riotlady · 18/07/2023 21:52

People who slowly creep forward at a red light. Just fucking wait! Where are you going that the extra 0.003 seconds you’ll gain matter that much?

toochesterdraws · 18/07/2023 22:05

People who don't indicate. It infuriates me.

100,000,000,000 watt headlights on the car behind me at night, that shine into my mirrors and sear into my eyeballs.

People who don't think the speed limit applies to them.

This. And the ones on motorway slip roads arsing about still at 40. So dangerous and make me dangerous because I can't get up to an appropriate speed behind them.

sallyisstarstruck · 18/07/2023 22:08

Drivers that slow to 40mph to pass a camera - in a 50mph zone.

Drivers who don't stick to their lane on a roundabout. Stay in your lane, don't cut the corner into my lane, where my car is.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 18/07/2023 22:11

Outside lane drivers on motorways grrrr!

FizzyFucker · 18/07/2023 22:12

People who drive along a single track road with a car(s) up their arse rather than just pulling over in to a passing place to allow over taking - as someone who drives at least 40 miles of single-track a day I hate these selfish arses a lot.

dudsville · 18/07/2023 22:13

Alright, so this isn't an intriguing thread about your pet's dislike of Jack Kerouac (not confident at the spelling there, it's been 30 years since i read it!).

Mine is how every gd summer, everyone gets all excited and has an accident. At the start of each summer for weeks we have road closures here, backing up the commute. I wish they'd put up those info posters... don't drink and drive, where your seat belt, and don't lose your fecking head at the start of summer.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 18/07/2023 22:17

All other drivers.

Theunamedcat · 18/07/2023 22:20

People who speed in wet weather yet again today I was overtaken by people speeding when it was hammering it down I had to break sharply for one car we were stuck behind a lorry two white lines in the middle of the narrow road loads of blind corners and you choose NOW to overtake? nearly had a major collision the joke was he turned off into his driveway within five minutes 😳

finewelshcheese · 18/07/2023 22:20

Anyone with a loud/popping exhaust
Lad racers who go out cruising (speeding) around for the hell of it

Jadey31 · 18/07/2023 22:23

People who shit themselves when they see a speed camera. "It's 30 down here but I better do 20 just in case!!"

Jongleterre · 18/07/2023 22:29

People that can't park. Learn to.

RicherThanYews · 18/07/2023 22:31

People who don't use roundabouts properly.
Drivers who aggressively overtake me whilst doing 40 on a narrow 20 road and swear at me. (These roads are notorious for speed cameras and those vans).
People who park over junctions.
Drivers who double block the entrance to my driveway.
Drivers who stop in the middle of the road in a very busy area to have a lengthy chat with their pal who casually leans on their car.
Impatient Drivers behind me at junctions who want me to drive directly into oncoming traffic when there is absolutely no gap.
Mother of Francis, who drives her massive jeep from number 3 Hill Street to Francis' school at number 11 Hill Street and parks on zigzags.
People who double park on double yellows and do a shite job of it.

I'm a new driver, does it show 😂😂

CarPour · 18/07/2023 22:40

People who don't indicate on roundabouts
People who drive significantly below the speed limit for no reason
People who break for speed cameras/police vehicles even though they are going under the speed limit
People who slam on their brakes at the slightest hint of rain
People who pull into my braking distance and then drive slower than me
People who inexplicably seem to want to race you at traffic lights
Fast lane hoggers-more than middle lane hoggers because at least I have a hope of passing a middle lane hogger
People who can't park and painfully reverse park/adjust their too big car 1000x

My absolute pet peeve is people who drive inconsistent speeds on motorways though. Drivers pull out in front of you and then slow down to overtake a lorry, then speed up so you can't overtake. Or slow down as soon as they pull into the slow lane and you pull in behind them arrrrggggg.

CarPour · 18/07/2023 22:45

Oh also when you are on a single track road and the other driver just stops and stares at you when it's quite easy for them to get to a passing space and it's not easy for you. Or they won't pull passed you because they think the space is too small for their car even though there's loads of room. Again more common in people with unnecessarily big cars

Happened to me the other day a man turned the corner and stopped at stared at me even though I was on my side of the road because he thought I was blocking his car. I wasn't and if his car is too big for the road that's not my bloody problem

Basically people who drive too big cars

Groutyonehereagain · 18/07/2023 22:54

Tailgating is the most annoying and it’s dangerous.

powershowerforanhour · 18/07/2023 22:54

Sometimes it's at least partly the fault of the first car in the queue behind them. If you're the slow car and you're not very well acquainted with exactly where all the potential pulling in places are, you come upon them quite suddenly, even when you're looking for them, and have to mirror/signal/brake/manoeuvre within a couple of seconds, which you cannot safely do with someone up your arse.

On a similar note, I don't mind people closing up ready to put the boot down when a decent straight for passing on a two lane road is coming u, but I hate to see people being tailgated through a series of tight bends. It's not as if the tailgater is going to be able to overtake and it's not going to make the "victim" more confident, smoother and faster through the bends.

Proudofitbabe · 18/07/2023 22:54

If I had to choose just one theme it would be people who drive below the speed limit in an overtaking lane. Similarly at a double traffic light which merges into one - selecting the right-hand lane and setting off slowly to allow the bus/lorry/learner/tractor etc in the left to get in front of everyone else!

lieselotte · 19/07/2023 15:54

People who crawl along when they see you want to cross the road. And related - those who won't give way to you as they are meant to when you are crossing a side road they want to turn into, but then proceed to turn around the corner very very slowly and drive very very slowly, even though they know you are waiting for them. Also related, those who rev their engine as lights turn from red to amber on a pedestrian crossing to make sure you know your time to cross the road is up.

Drivers are terrible to pedestrians - some of it is simply not seeing us I think, the rest is malicious.

And yes I do drive (and cycle)!
