If I can't part my legs very far...

How can I get on a scooter as a pillion passenger? Would like to book a scooter tour of Rome when I go in 8 weeks, but I've got arthritic hips. To get on my push bike I have to lay it in its side and step over the frame then pull the bike up.

Can a passenger get on a scooter first? I think I'd struggle to swing my leg around the back if the driver was already on.

I can walk fine, it's just the extending my legs outwards that's a problem.

Can't you change it to a golf buggy tour? Loads of those in Rome

You can put your left foot on the pillion peg, hold the riders shoulders with your hands, push yourself up with your left leg and turn your body through 90 degrees to the left, so you are facing the front and drop right foot onto the pillion peg. You dont need to swing your right leg over from the left side of the bike.

Thanks @DeltaAlphaDelta79. So you mean you sort of slide on over the back of seat having lifted yourself up with your left leg first?

I get on first, into driver seat and then slide backwards onto my seat. I probably look like a proper eejit, but I don't care. My legs are too short and it's like my left leg does not have enough strength to get up on the peg like pp said. Our bike Triumph is quite tall to me.

But when we were on holidays I did the same on a little 125 scoot.

The scoot is on a stand that is normally secure. Feels a bit wobbly but just take your time. You will love it! It will be great fun.

Hmm. Not sure I would want to see Rome on a scooter. I have seen what the traffic is like in Rome.

Yes sort of. You use your left leg to lift yourself up, holding onto the rider as support. You dont have to swing your right leg over, its just a small step.

Maybe do a Segway tour? That's great fun.

Thanks all! - I was hoping that getting on first was also an option @GirlInterrupted so that's good to know.
