Car accident - anyone know how long until claim settlement etc??

This morning a neighbour drove into my car and pushed it through a fence. Her insurance (LV) have rung me, said they are writing it off, booked a hire car and given me a portal to take photos which I've uploaded. Just wondering how long they take to do a valuation and pay out as obviously I need a car!!?!

I was around 3 to 4 weeks and I got market value for my car

It's generally a bit slower at the moment so I'd plan for a month to two months. You should get a hire car until yours is officially written off and you have the money to buy a new one. I'd start looking for a new one that's the same now to use in the negotiation on value, remember you should be able to buy the same car at the same standard.

When my car was written off I got the money in three days! I was very impressed with that.

Oh, and don't necessarily take the insurance company's first offer!

Thanks everyone. I'm concerned they are going to give me a ridiculously low offer (it's a lower value car anyway - a 2006 freelander). I'll start looking @Callmesleepy - thank you. I've never done this before and it is a pain in the arse!
The insurance says I have the hire car for 5 days.

Do your research and find like for like as a base point say £3000 or whatever so you can ask for a higher value

If you have more money you can then add that to buy newer

Christ I had a no fault accident in January and it's still not sorted.

OrlandointheWilderness · 17/07/2023 20:25

Yes I thought I can top it up a bit @Totaly, we're in the middle of moving house etc which isn't ideal and there isn't much spare cash going around but I think I can find an extra £500.

Oh god @LondonLovie how are you managing for a car!?!

My car (a somewhat battered 2011 i20) was bumped into on Friday 6 June, I had a hire car by the Tuesday afterwards, at the end of that week they wrote mine off, and by the middle of the week after I had a very generous offer for mine (I was expecting them to offer about £1500, and was hoping to argue them up to £3500 based on internet valuations, but they came straight in at £4300, so I snatched their hand off). I had the money less than four weeks after the bump, and kept the hire car till just before that, as I'd bought a new car by then. This was with Hastings Direct, I was very impressed with them.

Oh that's good service @maximist. Fingers crossed!!
