Near to Brighton

DC1 is moving to Brighton for uni next month. We'd like to visit in October but things are a bit tight. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay within an hour's drive of Brighton but a little bit cheaper. We'll have three-year-old DC2 with us so we're looking ideally for somewhere self catering and for a couple of nights. We don't mind co-sleeping.

Are there any towns nearby that don't have the same inflated prices of Brighton?

We're travelling from the East Midlands
Thanks

Actually, I've had a better idea. We'll take our tourer caravan down there and make a little holiday of it.

Campsite recommendations welcome! We don't need EHU if it's just for a few days.

Handy location close to the unis & also within walking distance of Brighton Marina (lots of restaurants) where there’s a large Asda. Plus a Lidl within easy walking distance too.

Heaven farm is a great campsite and has a fantastic ice-cream parlour, play area and nature walk.

I second Heaven Farm. It’s great for young kids. Also check out Macs Farm too.

If you change your mind about camping burgess hill and Haywards Heath both have premier inns and you can then drive or train in (or bus is the cheapest if they’ve still got their prices capped), there is a travelodge at Hickstead which is directly on the a23 (nothing but it there but if it’s just for sleeping)…

I've been to Housedean campsite three times. Recent stayed in a pod/hut for £60pn. Near Lewes, about 20 mins from Brighton. Showers, toilets, kitchen, was area are all impeccably clean. Some noise from the nearby A27, but cheaper probably for that reason. No stag or hen nights or loud music allowed, all very civilised. Right on the South Downs way. https://www.housedean.co.uk/
