Ds applied for it himself and didn’t see the message asking for more information.
can we buy our own insurance or are we screwed? I’ve re-applied…
i can not reach any of the emergency numbers but thought there might be a teacher who has had this experience

Once you’ve successfully applied for a GHIC you get a reference number. There’s a bit on the website about what to do if you need to use it before the card arrives - you can only do this at the point where the card is actually needed, there’s a number to call. He will be covered though

This. You only need the reference number that you get when you apply. I told my lot that they wouldn't be getting on the coach if I didn't have this. Trip left yesterday morning at 4am.

Stop panicking. Buy travel insurance. If he does need emergency treatment whilst I'm the EU am emergency can be applied for

My DD went to France this morning with school. They definitely said she doesn't need insurance but they didn't mention anything about GHIC 😬

Another school trip to France coming up. DS is now 18 (another thread that) and going into Upper 6th so I don’t think I can apply anyway this time - he’ll have to do it. However, I think we’ll have the same problems as another poster outlined above as he doesn’t have utility bills in his own name.
