Do you use a shopping trolley for your shop

Does anyone use a pull along shopping trolley? I don't see many of them, please usually use bags for life. Im thinking of getting a trolley, but I am reluctant for some reason. It would make things so much easier on my shoulders! I am 27 in London

Yes and I love it! I don't have a car and it makes shopping much easier.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 16/07/2023 23:00

My DB does. He's 35 and doesn't drive. But he does like to think he's ironic sometimes bless him Grin

My MIL had one she could pull up stairs, it was nifty.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 16/07/2023 23:21

Do I get a medal? I've got 2 😁I'm 51.
I don't drive and live 5 minutes walk between 2 supermarkets. I do click and collect once a fortnight which costs 50p rather than delivery which costs me £7.
'T was a pain in the arse when I was on crutches but that's what kids are for.
When I'm older I'm going to get a four wheeled one.

Why do some people push them instead of dragging them behind like you're meant to?

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 16/07/2023 23:29

I used one when I was single (as I can't drive) and then dc used it for newspapers. I can't remember where it ended up.

BovrilMartini · 16/07/2023 23:33

I’ve just bought one for the school holidays. We have 1 car between us and I take a rucksack on days out normally but my back is fucked from an old injury.

Im 39 and the least cool person ever but I’m looking forward to not having shoulder pain from all the snacks

Changethetoner · 16/07/2023 23:33

Nowadays you get them in other patterns and colours, they don't have to be green or red tartan like your Gran's.

Davros · 16/07/2023 23:33

Yes, I use one all the time since we moved less than 5 minutes away from an M&S Foodhall

ANewAdventure · 16/07/2023 23:34

I did when living in London, it was brilliant! Took it camping, to festivals and all sorts 😁

I use one of those four wheel push along ones, the ones where you pull behind you are OK for light shopping, but anything heavy and it soon pulls the muscles even if it's got good wheels.

I had one for the beach on holiday, it was ideal. I could get the beach mats, towels, cool bag of food & drink, spare clothes & bungee ds boogie board to it if needed. Mine had chunky wheels that were good on sand or grass, I bought it at the beach shop that sold buckets & spades at the seaside.

JockTamsonsBairns · 16/07/2023 23:40

I've got one and I bloody love it. DH cringes a little, but I care not a jot.
We used to live extremely rurally, so had to drive everywhere. Moved to a town three years ago, and my sholley is a prized possession.
I'm about 20 minutes walk downhill into town, which is fine, but obviously I'm a bit of a hike home with my shopping which is more difficult.
Mine even has a pull down seat, so I can stop for a breather whenever I want 😃.

I'm 50, and had it for 3 years.

GeraltsBathtub · 16/07/2023 23:42

Yep. I’m 28 and bought it when I was 23 I think. It makes life so much easier! Mine’s navy with polka dots

JellyfishandShells · 16/07/2023 23:44

I got one when I had surgery and was not meant to carry bags - now I leave it in the car and it is very useful when I can’t park particularly near the house ( London) and can put everything I need to transport back home without multiple or tricky trips.

Got it from the much missed Clas Ohlson and it’s got a nice chunky design and an abstract print.

I was encouraged to do so by a Dutch friend who said, and I have observed when visiting, that everyone has one there for shopping ( when it’s too much to cleverly balance on and around their bikes)

Hawkins0001 · 16/07/2023 23:45

For the office I do prefer the two wheel ones that you pull behind you.

Shopping it's always the four wheel ones

Cadburyscreamegg · 16/07/2023 23:46

My 19 Yr old ds uses his Nans to get his washing home and doesn't care one bit when I laugh at him lol

Stichintime · 16/07/2023 23:47

I consider them a step too far.

XenoBitch · 16/07/2023 23:54

I have a dear friend who is 66, and refuses to use one as they are "for old ladies".

Towards what?

honeyrider · 17/07/2023 00:21

I had a four wheeled one in my twenties when I lived in London. It was navy and was great.

PurplePens · 17/07/2023 00:45

I have one that I use when I go to the market for meat, fruit and veg etc.
It's a bright pink stair walker one.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/07/2023 00:53

Yes and have done for decades. Shove so much stuff in them and can get it home dry and without growing arms like an orangutan.
currently have a four wheeled Sholley make the 40in walk to shops an absolute doddle! Even Dh is rather taken with it. (Can even eat that cheeky use cream whilst pushing it)

look on Facebook- a lot cheaper and most are like new.

FussyPud · 17/07/2023 01:01

Have had one for years. I don’t give a damn what people think, other than to pity them their vanity.

Offered to buy my eldest one, as she’s just moved out of student halls into her own flat; she declined on the basis she was already using my old sewing machine bag on wheels for her weekly shop, and it was more than big enough for her needs.

Mine has a grey geometric print, and a quite robust aluminium frame.

CC4712 · 17/07/2023 01:07

I thought they were called a 'sholley'?

When I lived in central London, I used a weekend sized, wheeled suitcase if I wasn't driving to the shops or getting a home delivery and needed to carry bulk, heavy things. Save you back and absolutely use what suits you.

Auldspinster · 17/07/2023 01:09

I've got a stairclimbing one, don't drive and live in a second floor flat.

I have one for the seaside too and the kids are happy to pull it along.
