Do you use a shopping trolley for your shop

Does anyone use a pull along shopping trolley? I don't see many of them, please usually use bags for life. Im thinking of getting a trolley, but I am reluctant for some reason. It would make things so much easier on my shoulders! I am 27 in London

Do I get a medal? I've got 2 😁I'm 51.
I don't drive and live 5 minutes walk between 2 supermarkets. I do click and collect once a fortnight which costs 50p rather than delivery which costs me £7.
'T was a pain in the arse when I was on crutches but that's what kids are for.
When I'm older I'm going to get a four wheeled one.

Why do some people push them instead of dragging them behind like you're meant to?

Mobility, probably.

Blackbyrd · 17/07/2023 01:52

Most definitely. Loads of people do in and around Brighton. Plenty of hills you see and environmentally friendly. Also I take mine on school trips as I can put all my childrens groups rucksacks in it and save their little backs

cobden28 · 17/07/2023 02:09

I have a 4-wheel shopping trolley, of the Sholley brand, and I find it tremendously useful. They coat well over £100 to buy brand new, but I got mine sec9nd-hand on Ebay.
I don't drive, and havng the shopping trolley means I don't have to carry heavy bags full of groceries on the bus; it's a lot easier with a shopping trolley.

Allmyghosts · 17/07/2023 02:11

I really want one tbh, but for some reason have resisted. Fucking hate carrying stuff tho.

tomorrowalready · 17/07/2023 02:38

I got my first one for my fiftieth birthday after years of trudging home with aching arms. Now on my fourth and am surgically attached. but I have got flabbier upper arms now. Oh forgot , you can get them with a cool bag section for frozen food as well.

Stop resisting and free your back.
I've been using one since I was a youngster. There's no shame in helping yourself.
Once you've used one, you'll never go back to half killing yourself with heavy bags.
They're for winners 💪

Yes I love my floral little granny trolley (sorry I know MN hates that word). I have a Lidl within 2 mins walk so don't want to drive there as the roads and access are hellish. I end up buying too much for carrier bags so the trolley is prefect.

blahblahblah1654 · 17/07/2023 04:36

I'm 38

Roselilly36 · 17/07/2023 05:52

I love mine, I have MS so I honestly couldn’t manage to shop without it. I have Carlett ones, they look a bit like a modern pram frame, that you push, you can also pull it if you wanted too, but pushing is easier and more supportive, it has an insulated section, very study, fold up really neat. I get a lot of compliments about it when I use it.

Roselilly36 · 17/07/2023 05:55

I bought mine as my MS Nurse suggested getting one, she said in Europe everyone uses a shopping trolley, it’s only in the U.K. you see people struggling with carrying lots of bags 😂 it’s an easy option, you can pick them up in every price range if you want to try one.

I have one. I live 5 minutes walk from a good size supermarket and have another couple of food shops in the town. I barely ever need to use a car to do a food shop.

You can carry so much more than just holding bags even when I did have a rucksack as well.

Sgtmajormummy · 17/07/2023 06:16

I have a Gimi one with 3 wheels on each axle. Good for mounting pavements
smoothly.
Since lockdown I’ve switched to a weekly supermarket delivery from outside walking distance so now it contains our out-of-season shoes. I wouldn’t get rid of it, though.
If I was investing in a good looking, well designed one, I’d look here https://www.reisenthel.com/en/shopping/function/shopping-trolleys/?p=1

Now you can buy your original shopping trolleys directly form the reisenthel® online shop: Big selection + prompt delivery + free returns.

I use mine for city centre/market shopping where I've parked the car elsewhere. It's light blue with cats on it.

megletthesecond · 17/07/2023 06:28

I use Ikea bags. Turns my walk home into strength training.

Flidina · 17/07/2023 06:45

I've had one since about the age of 30 and I'm 57 now, never given a thought to what other people think!
When I was younger, my friend and I would go shopping, and she refused to have one, said they were 'old people', so she would rather struggle carrying heavy bags, she now has a really bad back, and now has to use one, never made any sense to me.

I thought they were called a 'sholley'?

When I lived in central London, I used a weekend sized, wheeled suitcase if I wasn't driving to the shops or getting a home delivery and needed to carry bulk, heavy things. Save you back and absolutely use what suits you.

That's one brand of trolley. Other brands are available.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 17/07/2023 07:23

I got my first one when the DC outgrew their pushchairs. Trolleys are perfect for days out with DC, you can put so much in them, including all the clothes they invariably discard. My first one was bright and funky, the DC used to take turns with their friends pulling it around.

My current one is a bit less cheerful but still in regular use for shopping. I can't imagine not having one.

Oooooooops · 17/07/2023 07:46

I was diagnosed with RA in my 20s and my consultant suggested one for shopping (we don't drive and this was just before the days of online shopping). At the time I was a goth and thought it would look hilarious, me with my big hair, all in black, trundling along with a shopping trolley. I got one, and it did! But I loved it and it made life so much easier.

I'm not (much of) a goth these days but I never stopped using my trolley. Been through a few since and wouldn't be without one now. I've always brought black ones - goth, innit.

Abracadabra12345 · 17/07/2023 07:52

Honestly you can get such lovely ones now. Mines got a Paisley pattern with a periscope handle and it barely even looks like a shopping trolley, in fact I've used it for overnight stays.

My daughter bought a gorgeous one in Brussels last year, its bright colours on a black background match her large tote bag and she looks so cool going shopping!

Walking with a bad back isn't a cool look, remember!

This is so true, we're very backward with regards to trolleys

FastAndLast · 17/07/2023 07:57

Yep, had one for about 5 years (I’m 43). Makes things 10 times easier 👵

lucysmam · 17/07/2023 08:02

I have two! One smaller one, my dad gave me. Doesn't come out as often as the bigger one but useful for when I took lots for my Rainbows and Guides - also a handy hidey place for things I don't want the girls to see, because of where it lives.

The other is bigger, but not quite as sturdy. Does the job ok though for a tenner off the market & I've had it a good few years.

Makes trips to the market so much easier, rather than struggle with bags, and sometimes gets used to cart things to school too!

Spidey66 · 17/07/2023 08:07

I've got one but admit I feel like Mrs Brady Old Lady with jy so don't use it that often. However when I do need it, it's a godsend.

I broke my arm 6 weeks ago. Im still in a sling during my day and I'm doing physio to get my full range of movement and strength back and I do still have a degree of pain and stiffness. I still can't do some things that need for example strength, reaching, lifts and carrying. My husband is doing supermarket runs but I'll nipp up the local shop with of lady bag for eg bottles of sparkling water .

sashh · 17/07/2023 08:08

I have a crate on wheels, useful when I get an online shop delivered, everything goes in the crate and I can wheel it in to the kitchen.

My carer also has one that he uses for shopping, it folds up to look a bit like a briefcase so easy to carry to the shop.
