What are your favourite champagne glasses?

I need some new champagne glasses and am interested in recommendations please! I've tried stemless but I don't like them as I feel like it warms the drink up too much from being held.

I am saving my remaining Dartington flutes (too many broken during drunken parties) so I generally use the John Lewis Anyday ones. I didn’t know that Prosecco needs a different shaped flute but JL has that covered.

Dartington Rachel, they don't hit my nose as I drink. I have a big nose.

I still have a pair of the Rachel large red wine glasses from 35 years ago - they take a half bottle each!

Fortunately I lived close to the factory back then so the seconds shop was most useful.

So many beautiful glasses!

We have a range of different LSA ones and some vintage ones my parent's gave us from an antique shop. Always to scared to use these tho incase they get broke when washing up

meatbaseddessert · 16/07/2023 20:44

Always a coupe and not a flute.

If you go flute definitely don't go for the over designed ones. Tacky and awful.

SabrinaThwaite · 16/07/2023 21:07

Coupes mean that the bubbles dissipate too quickly.

Lots of great options, thanks.

I am quite drawn to the Sommelier ones.

Flutes are yesterday's shape - it's all about coupes and saucers now. These are not too expensicve:

I have the antique originals of those inherited from family. The glass is so thin I was too scared to use them. Handed them down again to DS and partner who do use them. They're quite beautiful to drink out of

UndercoverCop · 16/07/2023 23:57

We have generic flutes probably from IKEA or similar and then a very expensive crystal set bought as a wedding present by DHs grandparents, but they are so heavy they make me feel like I'm in an episode of Columbia/murder she wrote, they could definitely kill a man with a single blow to the head.
I am now coveting the LSA coupes

I prefer flutes

I drank out of a coupe the other day and it just felt wrong. It's ok for a margarita but champagne 🍾 etc goes flat and warm too quickly

HappiDaze · 17/07/2023 00:26

Yes coupes are based on the shape of Marie Antoinette's breasts. Allegedly

Those are beautiful, @Rainbowshit. I used to be ever so choosy about glassware - then belatedly accepted that I'm clumsy, and don't care sufficiently about 'things' to maintain a set of lovely glasses. Now I just buy sets of 6 from Amazon or TK Maxx, and break 'em with abandon!

I have the John Lewis Anyday champagne flutes which only cost me £1 as I had a £5 reward voucher from JL which I put towards them.
They're almost bombproof, good job considering they always get dropped or knocked over by someone 🤷‍♀️

TK max do random really nice glasses you just have to keep checking I prefer the Marion Antoinette shape ones for champagne and they have to be the thinnest of glass or crystal I don’t like drinking out of anything other then the thinnest of glasses also only like bone China white mugs I’m not posh these are just my two preferences and I have to take a cup and a glass whenever I go on holiday!

SourDoughToast · 17/07/2023 02:53

Habitat have some lovely coupes- you can buy via their website, Sainsbury's or Argos.

I have the pressed set ones, they are v sturdy and haven't broken yet!

WandaWonder · 17/07/2023 02:55

I like cheap ones, not from a money perspective but although the glass is not as delicate they last longer to me. I prefer the flute shape

I actually like the bubbles to dissipate a bit or they 'take over' the flavour. The coupe shape allows for more oxygen interaction with the champagne which allows flavour and aroma to open up.

I love a coupe for champagne and it's my standard go to as it's just so elegant but its so easy to slosh it everywhere. In a stand up setting like a drinks party the flute is so much more convenient.
