Not sure holiday was worth it

So, just home from a week's holiday with DH and DC.

It was too hot.

DC decided not to go to any kids clubs so no respite.

Everyone up late every night so all headed to bed at the same time so all exhausted but DC up at the same early time regardless.

No sex because a) no opportunity and b) too tired.

Feel fat and bloated because have eaten and drunk so much shit.

Feel like it was thousands of pounds and I'm not even convinced I enjoyed it.

I hear you, 2 days into my holiday I got gastroenteritis, spent the next 8 days shitting and puking, couldn't move out of bed. Massive waste of money, on the plus side I dropped over a stone in weight. Silver lining and all that.

Well th at sounds depressing!

How old are the kids?

Yeah. I feel you. On the last foreign holiday I went on, my dc both started vomiting on day 3 and I had to post here for advice about how to ask for Calpol in Spanish.

I do love the feel of sun on my skin though.

I hear you! I've not enjoyed any of our trips away the last few years. I sort of look forward to them and then while there I'm just worrying about naps and food and bedtime and before I've remembered to relax we are back home.

Complete waste of time! And I find them much more tiring than being at home as the DC go to bed later so I dont get my bit of me-time every evening which I need to recharge.

How old are you DC? I'm.hoping it will get better when they get older.

The trick in future is to go without the DH and DC!!! My teens are going away with their friends this year so I’ve been away with a friend. Absolutely fucking perfect holiday.

HolidayBlah · 15/07/2023 22:50

Nice to know it's not just me!

I can also feel a scratchy throat starting, brilliant!

I like booking holidays, I look forward to them and then they just seem to be a bit of an anticlimax (though I do accept we're lucky to be able to go on holiday).

DC is 7. I know having one should be easier but honestly, being the full focus of attention and entertainment can be draining. I am also clearly DC's current 'favourite' parent so they want me there constantly.

I went with my daughter at 4 and 7 with my mum. Single parent and only child.

Struggled with naps when she was 4 it was a bit hit and miss but we did take the pram, she was only just 4 and small for her age no kids club,

At 7 she did a few hours of kids club but not all day but she made friends and wanted to play with them.

The kids club at 3 time slots the last one 10-midnight. I shit you not!!

It was a fab holiday, there were Spanish families there and they sang in spanish on the night time entertainment the friends she made were english.

We were going to sleep at about 00.30 and I was shaking her awake at 10am for the breakfast buffet!

Sex on holiday with a child?!
Didn't even know it was a thing!

Have an only, sex isn't really even a consideration whilst on Holiday, sad but true.
More a thing for me as I'd be mortified if they walked in on us, but that stems from walking in on my own parents (but there's a whole myriad of other stuff going on with that too)

Don't sweat the small stuff.
