Would you have a couple of glasses of wine if your dc had a friend sleep over?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/07/2023 21:25

Dc (year 7) asked a friend to sleep over quite last minute today. Said yes of course. But usually dh and I would have a couple of glasses of wine with a movie on a Saturday night.

I've left the wine in the fridge as I'm just not sure what the "rules" are on this!

Aren't you still legal to drive after just one glass?

So maybe compromise and have one rather than two?

Gunpowder · 16/07/2023 11:27

Riapia · 16/07/2023 07:48

With any luck the word will get round about you having wine and you’ll get no more requests for sleep-overs.
Win win.

That depends on a few things- where you live, how large a measure you pour yourself, how alcohol affects you personally.
This is the information on the government website and explains it better than I could.
Hope it helps. Sharing for information, not to sound judgemental.
It's information we could all learn from regardless of where we live, the basic info on how alcohol affects us is relevant for all.

Only in England, but I still wouldnt want mu child being driven by someone who had drank anything.

I also posted this upthread as well. In Scotland legal limit is 0.05%, in England and Wales it is 0.08%. So one 5oz glass of wine is below the limit for most women in all U.K. BUT it will still impair women in terms of focus, reaction times and so on.

Scotland is zero.

Inkypot · 16/07/2023 13:10

@WildUnchartedWaters not quite zero, as you can see on the link I put a few posts ago.
It can't be zero because of the reasons given on the government website so it's as close to zero as they can realistically go.

AP5Diva · 16/07/2023 13:13

WildUnchartedWaters · 16/07/2023 13:05

No it’s not. It’s a BAC of 0.05%

If I'd given this more thought when my DsC were school-age, I'd have opened the door for every sleepover in my dressing gown, with a bottle of Smirnoff in one hand and a ciggie in the other.

Something like this?

MaryJean87 · 16/07/2023 14:41

I would. I wouldn't get as drunk as I normally do in case anything happened. And I don't drive anyway.

She’s talking about herself, FGS - how on earth wouldn’t she know? Are you OK?

No.
Other posters cant say how much 'she wants' means, can they?

CrazyArmadilloLady · 16/07/2023 17:43

Illegallyblonder said, ‘I’d drink as much as I wanted. Wouldn’t get pissed …’

And you took her to task, saying - ‘So you wouldnt drink as much as you wanted.’

She just said she would drink as much as she wanted. Why are you questioning her??

You don’t seem to recall who you quoted or what you said to them. This is getting really dull now.

I disnt 'take her to task' you're being really dramatic over something that actually doesnt concern you at all and I'm certainly not explaining myself to you.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 16/07/2023 20:06

So you’ve obviously realised your error - she would drink as much as she wants.

You're so utterly tedious like a dog witn a bone I will explain mu comment once and once only and then I will no longer engage despite how many times you post.

My original comment was actually really in support of OP by pointing out even if she does have a glass, realistically if she takes into account the relevant discussion at the time of driving etc she wouldnt be able to drink as much she wants, for example if she wanted to have a full bottle which in the real world people do. Now you might imagine shel have her careful 175ml in line with governmental guidelines for drinking, but realistically being in charge of someone elses child would change the behaviour you would usually do and may affect what she wants to do.
I cant believe I've written a post this size for such an inconsequential comment that tbh was so throwaway it really doesnt matter, but since you've chased me across several pages il set the record straight.

But the whole reason I’ve taken issue with your comment is because that poster wasn’t talking about the OP? She was very clearly talking about herself.

Most people sitting at home on a Sat night with just their DH, maybe watching a movie together, are not going to sink an entire bottle of wine. Confused

They're going to have a couple of glasses. That’s all they’d want, regardless of whether there were extra kids there on the sleepover, or not.

So the poster who made the comment (again, not the OP, right?) was entirely correct: she would have as much as she wanted (a couple of glasses), and wouldn’t get pissed.

It must be nice in your world.

I'm not discussing this any further with you, I've explained mu point, and your continued re posting the same point and question has got batsjit. Really strange behaviour.

I'm annoyed af myself for being goaded again, and no matter what you post I will not respond.

You do realise a couple of glasses each is whole bottle?

I think she means each, but even that's doable so I've heard 😳

My God, I can’t believe I’m quoting your own words back to you - again - you said (upthread in black and white):

”for example if she wanted to have a full bottle which in the real world people do.”

She (singular) wanted to have a full bottle.

No, most people sitting at home with their DH don’t want a full bottle each?!

We’re not talking about having people over, entertaining, where feasibly, an entire bottle each might be sunk….?

OP - if you want a glass or two, I really think that’s fine. If you want to sink an entire bottle, perhaps abstaining might be for the best.

In any case, the original comment about ‘drinking as much as I want’ wasn’t made by either of you, so … 🤷🏻‍♀️
