Special city break suggestions?

Hi mn, hoping you well travelled lot can help me with suggestions.
I'm looking to book a special city break for a significant birthday for 4 nights (so not too far to fly) mid august. Mid budget - we're not hard up but also can't go too wild.
Done Paris and Amsterdam lots.
Fancied Rome but apparently the heat will be unbearable.
Will Barcelona be the same?
Considering Copenhagen.

Any other suggestions, that feel a bit 'special' will be appreciated.

Prague or Porto

Bruges, Belgium?

Palma.

Easy to navigate. Not too big, walking around is easy. Fab cathedral, medieval fortress, lots of interesting places.

And not far from the airport, plus lots of flights there. Loved a city break I went on.

used to love city breaks- agree Porto and Lisbon are lovely also Gdańsk
Budapest is pretty
also liked Prague

so many options !!! If I were to pick one i think Lisbon

Stockholm, a very pretty compact city, fantastic cheap metro, it is also a gocity pass city which includes open top buses, boats and most museums etc. Very safe as well.

I've been to Lisbon once, do like it so it's an option.

I thought Rome felt pretty special for a milestone birthday in the same way that Paris would....

Would Palms be horribly hot like Rome in August?

Yes it would, but it's just you two? It would be manageable I think.

If not, Amsterdam is fab too! (I love city breaks!)

Rome is amazing but should be avoided during August as it’s too hot and too busy with tourists (as is Florence). If you’re set on Italy try Trieste or Venice
Look further north as it’ll be cooler eg Stockholm, Copenhagen, Reykjavik.
Berlin is fantastic but for something a bit different try Tbilisi (Georgia), Sofia (Bulgaria), Ljubljana or Bled (Slovakia)
