Mirena gone AWOL

Ok, so I went for a smear Monday.
Nurse asked about contraception before hand, said I had a Mirena (was put in just before last smear, so 3 years ago).

Assume the position on the bed, and she doubles check I said I had a coil, well apparently the strings aren't visible...
She had a good old rummage and still couldn't find them.

So I'm being referred for a hunting expedition!

Anyone know what I'm to expect please?
Thanks

I had an ultrasound and xray to check it was in place and then when it was located it was left there until it expired. Unfortunately when it expired they still couldn't get hold of the strings (nurse at GP and the gynae department at the hospital both tried) and it was removed under general anaesthetic.

Hey, this happened to me.

have you ever felt the threads since it was inserted? If not it may be that the threads were cut too short. I went for an ultrasound and it was in position.

just be aware that it might not be straightforward when it is time to take it out. You may be absolutely fine but I had a very painful time when they tried to get it out, I will share the details inly if you wish!

Hmm, yes, I think the getting it out is more what is concerning me than the fact it's AWOL!
